Brisbane - Noosa
There wasn't a lot to do in Brisbane but we explored the city and went to an aboriginal workshop. There we painted our own boomerangs and there was a crazy aboriginal guy there. He was telling us how he was against the white people of Australia and he showed us how to play the digereedoo. We then picked up Lucy from the airport to join us on the rest of our trip. We left Brisbane for Noosa and from there we visited the Australian zoo. It was a cool zoo and we were able to pat koalas, kangeroos, aligators and feed elephants. We also see the crocodile show in the crocoseum and they fed it infront of us. Back in Noosa we walked along the beach and through the forest. Noosa is set among lots of rivers and was a very posh area. From Noosa we went on a three day canoeing and camping trip. We met a really nice German girl called Veronica who was in a canoe with Lucy and the two Sams were in a canoe together. It was really beautiful canoeing down the rivers especially because the reflection of the trees and the
sky was in the water. The water was a dark red/black colour because of the tea tree oil. On our first day we had lunch at fig tree point and then canoed to our campsite which seemed to take forever. That night we cooked pasta on the stoves they gave us and it took hours! We had marshmellows over the stove because we weren't allowed an open fire and they tasted like petrol! We spent the night in tents that, believe it or not, we set up ourselves! We were kept awake by all the strange noises of the birds and animals. The following day we canoed 6km to another campsite and then walked 12km return to a huge sandpatch. It was so hot it was hard to walk in the heat. When we got back to the river we all jumped in, our whole bodies were red in the water, it looked like blood and it was a bit creepy but very refreshing. After canoeing back to our campsite we started dinner as soon as because it took so long the night before. We hung out with a couple of english guys Bob and Adam. The next day we
canoed back to fig tree point where we were picked up and taken back to Noosa. From Noosa we caught a bus to Hervey Bay.
Hervey Bay - Fraser Island
The first thing we did when we got back to Hervey Bay was have showers becuase it had been 3 days and we really had to scrub to get the dirt off! In Hervey Bay we had a meeting about our Fraser Island trip the next day. We met our group the next morning which was 2 french girls Julie and Marie, 2 english Neil and Sarah, a german Carina and an aussie Nick, Mila from Korea and Yuey from Japan so a big mixture. We went to Fraser Island in a 4x4 and went across on a ferry. Our first stop was to Lake Mackenzie which was absolutely breath-taking. The sand was so white and the water was so clear. From there we went to Maheno ship wreck which was cool. Its a ship stuck on the beach and when the tide comes in it crashes through the boat. We stayed at K-gari aboriginal camp which was really dirty and disgusting. There were flies everywhere, the toilets
were blocked and completely stank. It was nothing like how it was described to us. We set up our tents - which we are now becoming pros at and had a bbq that night. The aboriginal people danced and sang for us around the bonfire. The dancing was really good. The next day we went to Eely Creek for a swim and then to Indian Head where we see amazing views and whales. Then we drove to Champagne pools where we swam, relaxed and walked on the rocks. That evening we went back to the campsite and made a bonfire, this time we had marshmellows over a real camp fire and enjoyed the stars. When we went to the toilet that night we see a Dingo and as per our safety video had to be DINGO SAFE. We crossed our arms faced the dingo and stared it out till it backed off. The next day we tried to leave the campsite but couldn't drive down the beach because the tide had come in. This caused an argument between the french girls and the rest of the group. We ended up going back to Eely creek and waiting for the tide
to go out. When it finally did we had to rush back for the ferry. On the way we got stuck in the sand and had to dig and push the 4x4 out. We just about made it for the ferry and went back to Hervey back and relaxed. The next day we left Hervey Bay for 1770/Agnes Water.
177/Agnes Water - Airlie Beach - Whitsundays
In 1770 we visited the beach for the day and then left on the night bus for Airlie Beach. The night we were on the bus it was halloween. Our bus was hit by rocks twice smashing the windows and we had to change buses. There was a phsyco girl on the bus who was convinced peolpe were after her but it was just kids. In Airlie Beach we had a meeting about the Whitsundays and set off the next morning. We went on a sailing boat called Apollo which had just been refurbished it was really nice. We had a cool crew consisting of Peter the skipper, Paddy, Kez and Mikey the chef. On the first day we stopped for some snorkelling and diving near Hayman Island. It was amazing diving
down there were hundreds of unusual fish and the coral was beautiful. The snorkelling was brilliant too, the water was so clear. The food on board was great and in the evening we watched the sunset and the stars. On the second day we visited Whitehaven Beach, the third best beach in the world. The sand was so fine and white it hurt your eyes to look at and the sea was clear. We played volleyball on the beach and messed around in the water. We also did some more snorkelling. On the way from the beach to the boat Sam and Sam were towed back to the boat on a rope from the speed boat. It was so much fun but Sam D almost lost her bikini bottoms that ended up round her legs. That night we had a bbq and a toga party. To get food first you had to wear no undies under the toga, all the blokes did it but we were the only girls so we were front of the que! That night we played drinking games with an apple we had to pass between our chins and another with toilet paper and a snorkel!.
The next day we did some more snorkelling and sailed back to Airlie beach racing with another boat. In the evening we caught a bus to Cairns.
Cairns - Cape Tribulation - Atherton Tablelands - Cairns
In Cairns we checked into our hostel and arranged to hire a car for the next day. That night we packed our stuff ready for the next day. During the night we were rudely awoken by a guy pissing all over Lucy's things. He was sleep walking and kept saying he was pissing in the sea so Sam J started hitting him over the head and Lucy was giving him verbal abuse. Sam D woke up not knowing what was going on and thought Sam and Lucy were talking in their sleep. This was 5 o clock in the morning and we were not impressed. We had to handwash all her things in the sink. The next morning, with a french dude Ronan who we met in Noosa we drove to Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation stopping at lookouts along the way. We caught a ferry over the Daintree river to Cape Tribulation where the rainforest meets the beach and stayed in
huts in the middle of the rainforest that night. The next day we drove to Atherton Tablelands. Here we visited a huge crater, waterfalls, curtain fig tree and lakes where you could go swimming. It was very peaceful and beautiful. The following day we drove back to Cairns on the way we see lots of bushfires. We got back and visited the lagoon along the promenade. Tomorrow we leave for Brisbane and then Hong Kong - we cant wait - BRING ON THE NOODLES.
