WAGS
creating weight Upon arrival in Airlie Beach we went straight to the local sailing club, in order to sign up for the WAGS (Wednesday afternoon regatta). We got told that the boats were rather full, though we should just pass by in the afternoon and hope for the best. We went downtown in order to book a Whitsunday island cruise, however we found out that everything were booked out until a week later. There was only one available for Louise’s birthday (Friday the 13
th) but it would cost 500dollars pp., which was a bit above our budget, meaning that we would have to do a day trip, however, also this was rather high priced. We decided not to worry about this until the next day in order to enjoy the WAGS prober. When we again arrived in the sailing club, it was rather crowded, and we got told there was no space on any of the ships. However, since no is never a final answer to Louise 😉 – she asked somebody if he couldn’t just take Christian along, due to his sailing experience and eager to sail along. The skipper ended taking both of us out, and we had a blast. We

Wednesday Twillight Sailing only had to create weight on the boat, but we sailed in the sunset, and it was just so beautiful. After returning to the harbor, it is custom to have a drink in the sailing club with the crew, and so we did. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and everybody was friendly. We ended up sitting together with one of the owners of the boat (Dave), with whom we spent the rest of the evening with. We got in to talking and one thing led to the other, and before we knew of it, he had offered to take us out for the weekend on his boat, and all we had to pay was fuel, food and drinks. (It can bring good things along when one talks as much as Louise does it ;-) ) We could even bring along the German couple (Ruwen and Mari). It was simply too good to be true. We did not really want to believe in it before we actually would be sitting on the boat, however, we got fairly exited.
The next day we went first to the Cedar Creek Falls, which unfortunately was out of water, however we did see

Crew of the boat thousands of small frogs jumping around. Here Christian had his first “near death experience”, seeing a small brown snake making its way through the stones in opposite direction of where we were standing – First time he made it this fast back into the car ^^. Afterwards we went to Conway Beach, were we went for a stroll, had a freshly “picked” oyster from the beach and enjoyed a whole kilo of Lychees. We just relaxed and enjoyed not being in a rush for once.
Friday, it was Louise’s birthday, so we got up and went to the waterfront in order to enjoy a nice breakfast. Christian was so sweet to prepare everything, whilst Louise could enjoy her morning reading in her book. It was the best breakfast we have had on the whole trip, including pancakes, fresh fruits, cheese, juice and as a birthday cake, Christian had got a pink/white “Hallo Kitty” cake with candles. We had the best morning, just enjoyed our time, relaxed and enjoyed the cooler weather. In the afternoon we had a drink on the beach and afterwards we played cards with the German couple, it was all very cozy. In the

Sunset over Airlie Beach evening we went to an Australian’s house, in order to spend the night there. It was a man called Jeffrey, whom the German couple had got to meet on the street, and he invited us all to stay over. He even gave us chicken to grill on his Barbie, since he didn’t approve of one-minute noodles as Louise’s birthday dinner ^^. We all slept really well, and in the morning we got up to enjoy the incredible view from his terrace over the turquoise blue ocean. We were all completely astonished of the beautifulness, and sitting there enjoying breakfast was just simply amazing. We had to reorganize our car before being able to leave, because heavy rain and open windows does not go well together, so the backseat was soaked, and therefore needed airing. It took us a couple of hours, but it was all good. Louise spend time playing with Jeffrey’s dog Angle, whilst Christian took care of the roof basket.
In the afternoon we met up with Dave by the boat, and the trip suddenly seemed way more real. We sailed out to where we were going to anchor for the night, and had a
Twister
The boat of all the adventures wonderful steak dinner on board. The sky was filled with millions of stars, and just laying there on the deck with a cold drink, was one of the most amazing times we both have ever spent. We went rather late to bed, and got up for a rather windy day just two hours after. We started out with a huge bacon breakfast, followed by a nice snorkeling trip. Once again we were lucky enough to see a sea turtle; however the visibility wasn’t as good as the outer Barrier Reef.
Then we sailed around and just enjoyed a cold beer on the deck, and Christian was happy that he also got to drive the boat. It kept being rather windy and the waves were high. We anchored just outside a little island where we were protected from the wind. We went snorkeling again and also Dave attached his rubber tube to the motorboat and took us tubing and it was all great fun. Back on the boat we watched the sunset before we prepared for a nights fishing from the back of the boat. Now Louise was in heaven, enjoying sitting throwing in the fishing lines, however, when she

Christmas carrols in the clubhouse had a bite, she was not able to pull up the catch, needing help from the boys. However, neither of them was able to pull it in, and every time it got away, which was a great shame. Ruwen caught quite some small fish, and Dave was lucky enough to pull in a squid. Louise kept fishing most of the night, whilst the others went to bed.
In the morning the sea was rather rough, and we had to hurry sailing to the White Haven beach. Here we anchored up and drove in with the dinghy. We hiked through to the other side of the island, and a glimpse of heaven caught our sight. It was one of the most beautiful sand beaches we have both ever seen, and even though being overcrowded with tourists, it was just simply amazing. We took heaps of pictures before heading back to the boat, however, no picture can justify just the beautifulness of this place. We enjoyed some more bacon on board, before sailing back to Airlie Beach Harbor. Here we cleaned up the boat, took care of the payment, and went with Ruwen and Marie for a 5$ pizza

Louise and the skipper making fun with the Rum Bucket dinner at the lagoon. We were all so tired that we fell asleep on the ground, dreaming of the fairytale trip from which we had just returned.
