Arriving in Townsville we were rewarded with a break in the wet weather (although it was short lived). Making the most of the sunshine we headed up Castle Hill lookout for an impressive view over the town and out to Magnetic Island. We spent the rest of the day swimming at The Rockpools at Kissing Point and also at the waterfront at the water playground. We all had fun whizzing along on the flying fox. We visited Reef HQ, which is a massive aquarium with a fantastic live coral reef. Of course the boys loved “Nemo” the most. We did the obligatory visit to Bunnings. We seem to have visited most of them on our trip so far for one thing or another (or else Home hardware). This time to buy a large tarp in preparation for another wet front coming through. We left Townsville when the rain hit and headed down to Airlie Beach. The weather was not much better here (or anywhere on the east coast) but we had planned to meet a few families that we’d met on the journey to watch the AFL grand final (1st one that is). We still braved the swimming pool, where Jack

View of Keppell Islands spent the afternoons flying down the water slide and the beautiful foreshore lagoon. A treat for all of us at Airlie Beach - new shoes (thongs). A great time was had by all at the pub watching the footy. Paul had a bit too much ‘fun’ and regretted it the next day while we packed up. We planned to meet up with some of the group again the following week to watch the grand final -again! From Airlie Beach we headed to Yeppoon. We stopped at Sarina to tour the sugar mill. The boys wouldn’t taste any of the products including the fairy floss. Paul and I enjoyed the schnapps, liqueurs and ginger beer (and the boys fairy floss). We hit the beachside town of Yeppoon with the rain and a severe thunderstorm. A break in the weather allowed us a picnic at Emu Park for a great view over Keppel Bay. Heading inland we passed through Banana shire (where they don’t grow bananas) and a town we couldn’t pronounce -Biloela. We spent the next few days at Cania Gorge enjoying a great campground, some lovely bush walks and peaceful nights. Jack and Paul went to ‘the movies’ every night

Bush walk to the lookout on the campground lawn. The boys had the chance to feed a beautiful array of birds. One landed on Finns head and reduced him to tears. The boys got worn out on the giant jumping pillow. I fell out of the caravan and hurt my shoulder. Before you laugh too hard - we have all now fallen out of the caravan! We met some local people who gave us the shortcut to the coast, so we headed cross-country to Agnes Waters. The roads weren’t too bad and we mostly followed the train line. The boys looked anxiously out the windows for the whole journey but there were no trains. Arriving at Agnes Waters Paul headed straight to the beach. This was his first opportunity to surf on the east coast. We enjoyed a few days of lovely weather spending time on the beach swimming, body boarding and surfing. A drive and a short walk out to the lookout in the Joseph Banks Conservation Park for another spectacular view of the bay. We enjoyed our last night in the area at The Town of 1770. We watched the sunset and ate fish and chips. Bliss. Off to Hervey Bay the next
day. Gotta keep moving.
