Agnes Waters

Hammered it down on Saturday morning when we left Rainbow Beach. All day I kept slipping in my flip flops when we would take breaks in the journey. Wet floor and flip flops are lethal and after the 6th slip I fell over in the middle of a zebra crossing! I got up extremely quickly to keep going as a car was coming but I tore a whole in my new three quarte trousers :( On our way to Agnes Waters we stopped at a rum distillery at Bundaberg. We did a rum tasting. Not much of a rum drinker usually but rum and coke was actually quite nice. They also had this coffee and chocolate liquor (thankfully couldn't taste much coffee) which we had with cream and it was delicious!!! Rum went straight to my ... read more

Day 35, 16/10/11 I got up at 5am today for a free 'Feed Wild Dolphins tour' which left at 6:30am and got back at 9:30am in time for checkout at 10am. I caught the mini bus to the boat, got on the boat to the dolphin cove and got off. We waited about an hour for the dolphins and none came so we got back on the boat to come back - very disappointing but we were told if we wanted we could come back another day and do it again. As I was leaving today I wasn't too fussed - and it was a freebie anyway. They told us the storm from last night put lots of fresh water into the cove and the dolphins don't like fresh water. We caught the 12:30pm bus up ... read more

On Sunday 9th September we left Brisbane to move up the coast to Rainbow Beach. There were lots of people out in Brisbane with signs wanting the truth about 9/11, as I'm sure there were in lots of other cities across the world. It really showed me that although Australia is a long way from home and a long way from New York, the Western World is a pretty small place and similar things affect people in the same way all over. As we moved up the coast we started to see more and more of the typical Queensland homes I was expecting to see - raised off the ground and surrounded by palm trees. The houses are raised up partly to prevent damage from flooding of the nearby rivers, and partly as a natural air-con. ... read more

Friday 5th August Today we went to the movies to see the movie "Red Dog" - a movie about a red Kelpie who adopted the town of Dampier and it's people and united the town. The movie made us think of Robby Dog (Geoff's dog who now has gone to heaven). It is a good aussie movie with a lot of laugh's and a few tears. We then had lunch at the "Brothers Club" - the meals at these clubs are very good value for money. A main meal for around $10 each, of course they have a huge poker machine room - it looked like a Las Vagas room with all the sparkling lights everywhere and there were quite a few people playing the machines and of course this helps pay for the cheap meals. ... read more

So its been a while since Ive updated my blog, and even longer since I last wrote a proper entry in my diary, so Im going to have to start with what happened today and work my way back to when I first arrived in Cairns and everything thats happened inbetween. As the title sums up, it has been completely and utterly crazy. I never know whats going to happen next or where I might end up, and it makes it all the more exciting! Today Jonny and I arrived in Agnes Water at about 2am this morning, checked into the Southern Cross hostel which is literally in the middle of nowhere, it was a half hour mini bus journey even to get from the bus stop to here! There area is beautiful though, today we ... read more

Sorry I haven't been able to get on the internet much so haven't updated this as much as I wanted to! It's been an eventful week and I am really really bored today! Went to Fraser Island at the weekend which was amazing, Lake Mackenzie has got to be one of the most stunning places on earth and also Lake Wabby, but wasn't a fan of the up hill mountain HIKE we had to do to get there! Also saw a dingo eating a turtle straight out of the shell which was weird and also smelt bloody horrible! I'm now in Agnes Water and I think I'm going to be stranded for a couple of days as the rain is so bad that the road up to Airlie Beach has been closed so I have had ... read more

Ok, first things first. Yes, i am alive (only just mind you). No, i have not forgotten about this blog, and i apologise now for spelling mistakes. I have less than an hour to write this and then internet is so expensive! So the last time i blogged, we were leaving asia Australia bound! We landed in Cairns to some serious heat and with a couple guys we met in pretty much every country in asia we set off for our hostel. Gilligans was the name and if you've ever been to cairns you'll no its pretty crazy there! The nighclub downstairs made for a pretty messy first night and the live band was ace! (Also the pool was pretty lush, didnt seem to get pools in asia... or hot showers) Cairns is a lovely city, ... read more

From Airlie Beach we moved on to somewhere… very quiet. The next part of our trip took us to Agnes Waters, next to Town of 1770. The Town of 1770 is where the Australia story all begins – Captain Cook landed there back in 1770 and we now have Australia. Agnes Water is next door with a little more going on than the 50-something residents of 1770. However, there is not a huge amount to do there so if you find your self there or are planning to stop there one/two nights is more than enough. Despite being a quiet place we still got in some firsts and adrenalin rushes. Poonam put her feet to board and went for a surfing lesson! After a couple hours in the water she is now level one certified. It ... read more
