27th January 2009 - ONWARDS TO AGNES WATERS
Not a lot went off today. I woke up at around 8.30am which was brilliant compared to the 6.30am wake ups I have been having!!! Nat and Hat were already up and Nat had already got our washing in.....good effort!!! After brekkie I had a nice shower and took my time packing up before check out at 10am. Once checked out we took the shuttle bus into town to go on the net at the library...we had time to kill before our bus to the next destination at 2.30pm. The library was funny.......Hatty made a freind who was a little like Brick in Anchorman. She began telling Hat how much she smelt of suncream even though she wasn't wearing any!! Nat and I didn't help Hat out and just sat there giggling and watching her struggle!!! Mean but funny!!!
Once done at the library we walked back to the shuttle, picked our bags up from the hostel and then got the shuttle back to the bus stop. The greyhound was right on time and shortly after 2.30 we were on our way to Agnes Water. I fell asleep for the first part
and opened my eyes at the services......I didn't wake up though as I managed to pay $3.50 for a cup of hot chocolate yet forgot to put a cup under to catch it!!! Money literally down the drain!!!
We arrived n Agnes Waters at around 6.30pm and checked into our hostel...Cool Bananas. It really was cool too. Hammocks all around, candlelight outside, sofas, free tea and coffee........very very chlled and just what we needed after Fraser. We did a quck supermarket shop, cooked tea, sat outsde for a while and then went to bed. A pretty uneventful day.
28th January 2008 - FLYING A PLANE & AN OVERNGHT BUS!!!
I was back to the 6.30am wake up this morning. It was ok though as we only had today to explore Agnes Water as we were leavng that evening on the overnight bus. Not much happening really and the town was very small...a llttle like Raibow Beach. We asked around and it turned out that the best thing to do was a flight over Middle Island. It only cost $85 and you got a turn at taking off and flyng the plane!!! I booked my time slot for 2.30pm.
Nat went before me and Hatty followed me in the afternoon!!
Before any of us flew we went to check out the beach. It was pretty small but there was hardly anyone on it. It was nice to chill out and read my book for a while. The weather was a little crazy though...sunny, rain, wind....all 4 seasons in one!!! We left the beach at around 12pm and all went our seperate ways. I went to the net, Hat went to the hostel and Nat did her flght. Once done on the net I met up with Hat and 2 guys at the hostel for lunch before beng picked up for my flight at 2.30pm. One of the guys...Rich had a bandage on his leg. Turned out he had been sleeping on the beach in Fraser and had woken up to a Dingo mauling his leg!!! He had to go to hospital, be put on an antibiotic drip and still has to take 2 sets of antibiotcs now!! So so glad we didn't see one as his injury did not instil confidence!!! We now call him 'The Dingo Man' (I don't know where we come up with them!).
Mindy...the piolets partner drove me to the landing strp where I saw the plane and met the pilot. He was a cool old guy but a bit full on!!! He took off as the wind was a little strong with lots of air pockets. I didn't mind though as air pockets all add to the exctement...hey dad?!!! The plane wobbled about for a while before settling and becomng quite smooth. The views were cool an we flew over a reef, 1770 beach and a few sea islands. Disappointed we couldn't see any sharks though as the water was too churned up. I then took over the controls and flew the craft for a while whilst the pilot got snap happy with my camera. He also showed me a cool trick by putting my camera on the dashboard and watchng it float back to me through the air........cool as!!! He then landed the plane on Aircraft beach on Middle Island. We got out of the plane and had a wander along the beach. He tried to get me to eat an oyster and he put a crab on my hand. The beach was cool as there was no one on it
and the views were cool!!
He was a little too snap happy and tried to get me to pose around the plane and on the plane as he took photos.. I didn't like it and felt very uncomfortable as i'm not into the whole photoshoot thing!!! He took about 50....47 of which were deleted!!! Once he had done we got back in the plane and I controlled the take off and started the flight back whilst he videoed me. Just call me Goose.....not so keen on Maverick!! I did ok too and I was in control for a good 10 minutes....it was easier than drivng a car!!! He then took the controls and the rest of the ride back was ace...I told him I had a strong stomach so he did some vertical climbs and verrtical drops as well and some steep turrns and rollercoaser effects!!! Brill.......I loved it!!! He then landed the plane which was a bit rocky but added an element of fun!!! Hatty was there to meet us as it was her turn next....I wished her luck and waved as they took off!!! I have certanly done some new things since being in Oz........flyng a plane
can now be added to the list!!!
Once back at the hostel I chilled out with Nat. Our bus wasn't until 7.50pm so we had plenty of tme to kill. I read my book for a while, we had a few brews, we got a chicken and some salad for tea, had showers by about which time the bus arrived. The bus took us to a place called Fingerboard Road and from there we transferred to the big bus for our overnight journey. The journey lasted for 11 hours.......not the comfiest either but I reckon I slept for around 10 hours out of 11. It really does make the journey go so much quicker and I really do feel sorry for those who can't sleep!!! Next Stop.........Airlie Beach!!!
