What a joke! Typical. Bloody typical of those thieving bin dipping scally scouser buggers robbing the FA cup from the Hammers' grasp. Blooming Stevie Gerrard scoring two amazing goals. If he does that in the World Cup final against Germany then I may, just may, forgive him for previous crimes against West Ham lack of silverware. We watched it in Alice Springs with Gorm (another west country bumpkin) and Kate his wir-bird fiancee. I was very dejected and hoarse afterwards but proud.
So anyway who cares about football when we are travelling on the other side of the world (well me). Northern Territory (along with Queensland) was the Australia I always had in my mind before I went. Real remote outback stuff and nothing for miles around, weird unique creatures and Great Barrier Reef/Whitsundays (Queensland) on the coast was absolutely stunning. I did my first scuba dive and that was really a weird feeling but ace and snorkelling was superb. Just another world down there.
Gorm and Kate put us up for just over a week in Alice Springs and were so great to us. They're getting married in England in a few weeks and very
disappointing to miss it on the fun, frolics and high jinx but hope we made up for it in "The Alice". Thanks again you two. 1 thing I wont be missing in NT is the flies (especially in the Centre). They're a different breed who are the most irritating, numerous and persistant flies in the world. I felt like an Ethopian and I've got a sticky out belly from too many Ozzie pies! and I thought you lost weight travelling?
So that's Australia finshed with. It's just such a massive country - we were there for just under 3 months and have just really been Tazzie, the East coast and the Top End.
Off to Asia now for some hardcore/cheaper travel and some different culture (NZ and Oz were so easy to travel in and so......similar) and look forward to meeting up with you siblings and mates in Thailand.
Cheers
Rick

The middle We stayed in Alice with Gorm and soon to be Mrs Gorm - it was lovely to have a home for a while! We hired a car and travelled to Ayer's Rock, and saw not only the Rock
Changing colours of Uluru at sunset
I may have used Becky's sunglasses but it did change colourish but also the Olgas, which I reckon are just as cool as the Rock itself. They are in the same national park but much under publicised I reckon. It was absolutely boiling so we didn't climb the Rock but did a walk round it. All very cool but the only down side was the swarms of flies that wouldn't bugger off and which tried to sit on your ears, mouth and eyes to suck out your moisture. Nice. I had to give in and buy a v naff cowboy hat with netting over it to keep the little blighters off.
I'm afraid I have to also report the FA cup final was watched here, it started at 11.30pm Alice time, and finished at 3.30am so we were hammered. And gutted. The pub we watched it in was full of Liverpool fans, who I think really did appreciate Rick getting onto the stage, running round the pub and head butting chairs when the Hammers scored. In fact the next morning he had a cut on his head from butting a chair. Hope Stevie G plays like that in the World Cup, then we could think about forgiving the jammy scouser
for scuppering West Ham like that.
The top Last stop - Darwin. We hired a car and visited Litchfield national park - v nice waterfalls that you can swim in, as there are no crocs, unlike Kakado national park, where we spent 2 days and saw millions of 'em! We did a cruise down a croc-infested river, where they hold out a fishing rod with pigs' heads on and wait for the crocs to jump out of the water to get them. They can get practically their whole body out of the water, so it was quite scary! We kept arms and legs WELL inside the boat! Was not convinced of wisdom of getting crocs to associate humans with food but, judging by the horror stories the guide delighted in telling us, guess it is too late for that!
We also did a dawn (yes we got up at DAWN - it was horrible!) cruise on a billabong, which was covered in lillies (and of course infested by crocs) and saw lots of birds. Twitchers.
Anyway hope you are all still awake, now we are up to date on our blog and are actually in Singapore
now. We have one more night here (off to Raffles for the obligatory Singapore Sling) then off to Malaysia and Borneo.
We are still getting used to strange food after 5 months of lovely familiar stuff and I am already missing cider. At least we had a lush "last supper" before we left Oz of bangers and mash and some lovely Bullmers cider.
Not long now till the World Cup (come on England!) and visits from Belinda and Ben, Clare and Dunk and hopefully Stevie Mac. See you in Thailand! xxxxxxxxxx

If u visit Trang, Thailand...
Let me know if you two plan to visit Trang, Southern Thailand. Natasha is living there teaching English as a foreign language. There are some cool places around that are off the tourist trail. Can't say they are as good as Oz. The pics look great - they brighten my day then make me green with envy. Travel safe
