Today we’re on the road and we just headed out of Darwin and now we are at Douglas Hot Springs. I’m just going to go down there right now and have a little sit in, it’s really warm. I think someone might need a crane to get me out. But I got out anyway. The hot springs are a hot river that goes into cold. There’s also a very, very hot part, it’s like fire except water and I dipped my toe in the part I thought was cold and it was actually the very hot spring.
We stayed at Michael and Kate’s for a little while, that was in Alawa, just out of Darwin. They had a dog named ‘Moses’ and a baby named ‘Ahnouk”. I played with them both and sometimes at night time I watched TV (Masterchef) and in the day time once I watched a show on the tele. While mum and dad were working, because we were doing helpx, I helped with clearing the stones away.
The next day we went to the markets and while we were there I decided to buy some pan pipes and a bubble blower with my money. Dad
was busking. After that we went to a little circus show and the person there was playing with fire. He did some magic things except I know they weren’t really magic. He did fire staff, fire poi, fire diabolo and lots of other fire stuff. He had a fire suit and a fire hat and I think that was all the fire stuff. I liked his show. He played a game with the fire diabolo and it was a silly game, if we were loud he would throw higher.
Grandad came to the Northern Territory and we like him being here with us. He left just today to go to Katherine and we are at a very amazing place. We are in Litchfield National Park. It has lots of waterfalls and water streams. It’s worth using goggles because then you can see all the fish, all the amazing rocks and everything that’s in there. There’s also water spas that you get to go in and some of them are deep and dangerous except mum and dad are the only ones who got pulled under from the water flowing. Grandad was here with us and he saw some waterfalls too.
Today we discovered a very special spa, there was no one there and it was very private. We walked up the stream to get there and swam through lots of rock pools.
We just had dinner, dad made some damper, and we’re going to have it when we have finished cooking it in the ashes from our fire.
We are going to Kakadu National Park next.
Dad’s Damper
We've been out of range for a while and some of the writing was done on different days.
30 - 6 - 10
Dad made damper out of bananas, flour, egg, water and sultanas. We built up the fire and cooked the damper. I had a stick and I rolled some damper onto the stick and after I had had that damper I waited for the ash bed so that we could have a different kind and when it was finished we ate it with honey or butter or nothing.
The next day we went to Buley Rock holes and swan a long way down stream and there were lots of fallen down trees just above the water. There were also lots of waterfalls that we
had to climb over because they were only little ones. Then we drove to Douglas Hot springs after we had had our swim. On the way we bought some fireworks because it was a day where they celebrate fireworks on the day Northern Territory became a state. When it was nighttime at the hot springs we lit the fireworks and some were fountains with sparks coming up and going like a golden fountain. And bumblebees that go off when you light them and they leave a trail of fire behind them and zip all over the place. There were also ones that went up in the sky and blew up, and there were also sparklers that we didn’t open because we were going to light them when we got to where Grandad and Kath were.
The day before that night at Douglas Hot springs we saw a big, big python. It was as fat as my leg and 3 meters long, we saw it as we were looking for fish and Dad spotted it on the ground.
Today we came to Kakadu National Park. I just had a walk, a swim in an enormous waterhole which was very
deep and played the ukulele so I’m just going to do something else now. We just met Grandad and Kath here.

I wanna be there!
Hi Jasper, Those hot springs sound wonderful. Yummy damper too. I didn't know you could get fireworks in the NT. It is a lovely sunny day here, but still very cold in the mornings. I have just started our school holidays and I am relaxing reading a book for book club. I have finished the book your mum gave me. It was beautifully written. I also read another book called "The Book Thief" It was an amazing book and I recommend it. Has your mum finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series? How is Harry Potter going? Jordan is reading the same one as you at the moment. It is very exciting to read about the Quidditch Cup at the same time the World Cup is going on. We watched The Netherlands defeat Brazil (the favourites) last night. There is a sweep going at school and Mrs Morris has The Netherlands. Mark has Germany. They are still in too. Mrs Morris is off to Shark Bay today for her holidays. Keep on trecking. Love to hear what you are doing. Mrs Schmidt
