4-8-09 Lazy morning today, tidied up & Den washed the car, I checked our emails & caught up with my journal. We had lunch & decided to go to Berry Springs to have a swim in the hot springs, it is about 40 km’s away. We got to Berry Springs & found a great Caravan Park to maybe come to on Friday if we cant get accommodation at the Oasis. We may have to stay a little bit longer with Annie . The park is on a lake & we should be able to put the Kayak in there & maybe do a little fishing, we will see what happens. We found the hot springs called The Nature Park which were a series of natural pools & the bluest water & the temperature was about 30 deg . Just my type of a swim. We took our “Noodles” in & floated around & explored the pools & had a delightful afternoon. It was a great Oasis. We drove home & had tea & I finished the blog & sent emails. Then time for bed.
5-8-09 Today we had to have Annie at the vet for tests at 7.30 & she
will be there for at least 24 hours, Jessie wanted to go too, she is a little lost without Annie. We did the washing & cleaned the van & Den cleaned the inside of the car. We then went grocery shopping to fill the cupboard again, we got home & unpacked & I rang about Annie & all the tests were not back & they were going to ring us in the morning to let us know when she can come home. They said she had a very sad face & they were giving her as many cuddles as they could. Hope the news is good, it is funny not having the two of them around, Jess is very quiet. We got tea & I caught up on more emails & then watched TV & went to bed.
6-8-09 We picked Annie up at 9.30 & still no results, will have to wait till Monday avo to find out results, she has been put on heart medication ( $85 per month ) but she is worth it. We have to stay for another week , we cant get into where we are staying as booked out so we are
going to go down to Berry Springs 56 km’s from Darwin . It is a nice park & we should be able to put the Kayak in the lake , no Crocs there, hopefully. Spent the morning & avo packing up ready to move tomorrow. We then went into the Minindil Markets again to buy a couple of things & have tea . We took our chairs, Wine, beer, cheese & biscuits & sat with all the rest of the tourists watching the sun go down, it was very pleasant. Home to the van & the girls & tried to Skype Merry but she still cant hear us. Will try again soon.
7-8-09 Off to Berry Springs Lakes Resort which was $135 a week plus power & arrived about 10am, we set up & had lunch & I decided that I was going to have a nana nap (lazy day today). It was 33 deg today & no breeze so put the air con on & had a nice nap & the girls enjoyed it too. Den fixed my fishing line . We then took the girls for a walk to see where we could put the kayak in &
came back & had happy hour & made a few calls, had tea, Den watched the footy ( Go St George ) & then went to bed. We might go to Litchfield tomorrow.
8-8-09 Up & at it , we got away about 9.30 am & headed for the National Park . It was 60 km’s from Berry creek via 30 km’s of dirt road & it bought us in the back end of Litchfield. The first stop was Bamboo Creek Tin Mine , which was interesting , we then went to Litchfield Café & had Scones, Jam & Apple Pie & Cream with our Coffee. We then visited Wangi Falls, what a gem of a place with a big swimming hole. We did the loop walk of 1.7 km’s to walk off the morning tea . I knew about it by the time we got back, after kicking my toe & nearly running out of breath it was a steep climb but we did it. Back at the water hole we went for a swim & I had asked Den if the water was cold & he said no it was nice (Liar, Liar pants on fire )
it was cold. But after we got used to it was not too bad. We floated around on our noodles & cooled off as it was very hot. Next stop was Tolmer Falls which was another walk but not nearly as bad. These falls were spectacular too. It was getting late & the girls had been in the van all day with the air con on so we headed for home via Batchelor & got home at 4.30 pm the girls were so pleased to see us. We talked to the new neighbours & then got tea, went to bed early, we had a nice day & will go back & finish Litchfield another day.
9-8-09 I had a sleep in today & Den went for a fish , no bites , no fish. We did some washing & decided to put the Kayak in , while Den was getting it ready I (being a drip) let the water run over in the sink & wet all the draws & underneath the sink. It took a while to clean it up & it was lunch time by the time we launched the Kayak in the lake at the park.
We had a nice time & must have pedalled 4 km’s round trip, we were both tired by the time we got back. We had a fish - no luck there only got smelly fingers from the bait - garlic squid. We came back & Den washed the Kayak & I got tea ready & then we took the girls for a walk, time for bed.
10-8-09 Well, what will we do today ? We went to Dundee Beach on the coast . It was 210 km’s there & back & a lot of dirt road but all worth it as the sight of the Timor Sea when we got there was spectacular. The Beach , rocks & sand was magic, we took the girls for a walk but could not go in the water as Salt Water Crocs had been sighted in the area, so we were very careful. We sat on the headland & watched the tide go out, people fishing & boats going in & out. It was very hot today about 33 deg. We left there to look at Crab Claw Island but we could not take the dogs in there. We then went to
see the Darwin Dam but it was closed, so did not have much luck. We called in & saw the historic site of Southport on the way home. Got back to the van & put the Air con on & had a rest. The vet rang about Annie & it was good news she does not have Cushing’s Disease but she does have a heart murmur, which is causing the panting, tiredness & stress which can cause other side affects. The weight loss & hunger has been put down to changing her diet to a senior dry food which has a lot less fat in it & she has lost weight & is hungry so we have to give her more & feed her twice a day, She thinks that’s OK. She is on heart tablets $85 per month forever , so hope they work. We will work out what to do tomorrow when we wake up, what a worry .
