DAY 256
Today was another warm start to the day; we were up and about relatively early i.e. before 8.00! We already had a plan but there was no rush to get out and about.
By 8.00 I had done one load in the washing machine which was now hanging out to dry and by 9.00 the second load was hanging out to dry, finally I had chance to sit down for breakfast.
We said our goodbyes to Laurie and Jo, they are heading off from Darwin today, to continue their journey. We hope to catch up with them another time.
We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, pottered around camp doing some chores then decided we should look lively and go out.
Today we pop down to Darwin’s Waterfront, there is a significant amount of development going on in this area, there is a newly developed beach, sheltered by a seawall, it is safe to swim in here, in other words free of crocodiles, I am not sure what the chances are of getting a crocodile in this man made beach. There is a wave pool to enjoy, on a hot day this pool is extremely
busy but it looks fun, we hope to come down and enjoy it tomorrow (fingers crossed it will be quieter as the kids are back at school!).
The state of the art Darwin Convention Centre dominates the waterfront area. They are busy building some apartments, there will be some fabulous views to be had in these no doubt along with some fabulous prices to match. There will also be boutique shopping, restaurants etc. there is already a hotel and restaurant that graces this waterfront.
I can safely say that if you want to be anywhere in Darwin then the waterfront is a good place to be. Darwin is such a lovely city and so tropical, it would be great to see it in its splendour when the flowers and other vegetation is at its best.
We find a suitable spot by the beach and plonk our towels down on the ground, despite it being not too busy there is not a lot of shade around, so we are sat directly in the sun. The beach is quite small but there is a huge area of water to swim in, so I think even on a busy day
there is plenty of room for everyone.
Andy and I go for a swim, the water is quite cool but not so cold that you don’t want to get in, Andy of course takes an immediate plunge, I take my time but eventually I am in and enjoying this lovely sea water.
After our swim Andy lounges around on the grass, I get changed and grab my camera for a wander. I walk around the waterfront area taking in the views and taking photographs, I am probably gone for about half an hour while I walk around over the sea wall and back up the other side. When I return Andy is ready to get in the shade, we wander off back to the truck and go to find some lunch (late lunch!) as we both realise how hungry we actually are.
We had great fun down at the waterfront swimming and relaxing, and look forward to coming back tomorrow.
Back at camp we find more relaxation, sit in the shade as the afternoon sun gradually fades away.
Neither of us feel like eating as we had a late lunch and still feel quite full,
so we only have a couple of crackers with cheese, mine of course was washed down with a nice cool g&t.
The amazing thing is that we settle for the evening, I am playing with my brain training and Andy has got bored with solitaire on the computer has now found Mahjong. Still it is keeping him out of mischief, problem is we were late to bed because we were both working out the moves so that we could win, never do we miss a challenge like that.
It was a warm night again, we did not need the bedclothes, we drift off to sleep fairly quickly.
