on route to Daly Waters Current Mood: Hot springs with Crocodiles...... EEEEEEEEEErrry!
Well as ever I came to town for a great break but had to return to the island for yet another 9 days of work saying my final good byes to Shell as she had plans to leave for the east coast. The excitement of next break was for many reasons….. Bass in the grass came to town which was to be a Scream, Bretta had finally landed a gig on the island working for the same department as me and I had been invited on a Camping trip that would hit two locations. All to be explained in full……… as I always do hehehe x
So out on the island I was running the drill of digging rock for holes that would be used in Dunnart trapping doing some things slightly different it would seem hahaha (god the working life is getting tedious) when I heard of GSP (Great Southern P???? something, id reckon Plantations) were back dooring the agencies and getting guys employed through internal and external but direct applications!! This was on the Wednesday. Thursday morning I had blagged Brett a place and he was out on the island
working along side his good Brummy buddy (you know you think I’m great). It was great to se him out here as before I only got to catch up with him on my breaks which I could never be arsed to do anything with!! He’s not so lost in conversation now. Working the week out we got to show Brett some of the sights including Salties (crocs) swimming along in the ocean before jumping in our selves for a kind of in and out sort of swim!! Risky stuff. The croc we saw earlier was a good 3 metres long. After this though there was only one thing in mind….. Bass in the Grass!
So the Wednesday morning comes, We all jump on a plane back to Darwin with three days to wait for the big bash in town… but until then plans had been made for me by Rob and his Buddy and now my buddy Jacqui who was to be leaving Oz for New York and wanted to see her time out in style also whilst celebrating her late birthday.. ooops! So a couple of phone calls later we were all packed into a Van (sponsored by
Wicked) and on our way to a destination known by Jac called Daly Water hot springs around four hours south of Darwin.
Man did I feel guilty….. There is me in a Wicked Van when my baby girl is sitting on the drive with new boots on and no Battery….. bless the Nomad! But without shedding to many tears we were on route to the shops for a three day supply of Tucka and an infamous slab of beer…. Don’t forget the roooo!! Afer a quick shop and a detour into Tommo’s Pies we set out passing the Dundee pub again for a cheeky one and onwards towards this area of Daly.
The trip down was fun and it was different to see bush that was dry and burnt unlike that on Melville, listening to tunes offered by Jacquiline and supping on Bundaberg Ginger ales (man I have a taste for that stuff!) arriving at Daly was well deserved as the last shift on melville was a real drain of the system…… This is the shit!
Out of the Van I jump, Jacqui next then Robert and all quickly run down to see what these springs were
like before the dark came!! I was gutted about arriving late but un-be known to us Jacqui had plans!! Not really bothering with a fire we got the beers from the eski… set up the tents then trotted down to the water which was a weird experience to say the least. The water is shallow in parts, Deep in others…. Adjoining springs and creeks join in a point to which the mixture of hot and cold water was dazzling. You’d be Sitting in what seemed like a hot bath and suddenly you would get a wave of absolutely freezing water come by and throw you out!! I couldn’t get my head around the feeling… its certainly not like swimming through a worrying warm bit of water in the ocean or god forbid a swimming pool!! This was all in reverse. I’m a simple guy who wants simple things! This confused my ass.
So getting use to the idea of pneumonia in the water, the sun began to set to which we should normally have got up and got out of the water… remember there are crocs in the northern territory but Jacqui bless her set up this display of
Rob
Happy chappy Happy chappyCandles across this fallen log that lit the area up awesomely…. I was chilled to the core so cracking open another beer we were going no where. After hours of chilling and drinking in this hot and cold mix we decided to get back upto the camp site for some munch and this weird Fijian stuff called Kava which was to be a new experience if having your guts full of mud is new but hey I’m a try things once sort of lad it now seems. Splashing out of the water looking for our things Rob grabs his torch and flashes it at me but slightly past shining down the river!! ‘Ahh man’ he said what is that and turning around we noticed we had been sharing the creek with what looked like a bloody big Crocodile. The glare of the torch caught his eye which was blinking and submerging with the current rushing past him!! Shit man how long had that been there and was it stalking??? Who knows but after taking the things back up to the van myself and Rob were back down stalking him along the bank searching for more of them with our
Carlton Cold fuelled Brass Bollocks…. Guys at home I will be ended by a croc.
Hahahaha back upto the van we went for a ceremony of Kava which is disgusting! Its basically supposed to be a sort of Drug that Fijians use to welcome a guest or celebrate an occasion of some sort. Well not the packet shit…. It was like Forest scrapings filtered through a jumper (as we didn’t have a siv) then drank from a coconut cup continuously until our two pots had been finished…. Think ill wait for the real Fijian experience next year! Thanx though Jac it was a good laugh… what did we have to say again.. was it goonygoogoo??? hahaha xx Full of M&Ms and mud water I was knackered and after a quick low down to Jacqui on the plot of Spiderman 3 I went to bed… I was zonked!
The following morning I woke to a real treat.. Spiderman Cereal…. Man.. I love life!! Little chocolate web shaped bits of goodness followed by a game of cards and a bowl of more Jelly sweets and m&ms. Loking around I went for a walk down to the springs to check them
out in the sun shine finding on my return I would be going to Kakadu which was a real surprise….. I love Oz right now.
More from Kakadu National Park
Love to all at home……. Your big bro Niki
