Port Macquarie
First view of the big blue! Hello!!
It is very overdue for this blog's update! Here we go....Port Mccquarie was 2 weekends ago (the 3rd through 6th of March) and a lot of fun! Tom, Piers, Chelsea, Heather, and I arrived Thursday night, after a horrible 4 hour drive! I had some serious car sick issues on the way- not very enjoyable. First, we had a home cooked meal of yummy pasta then we took a walk to the beach! Port Mccquarie's beaches were very different from other beaches that I am use to in the United States. There were many beaches that were separated by clusters of trees and huge boulders. We stayed at the beach until nightfall and headed back for bedtime. On Friday, we spent all day at the beach called Flynn's. The water was very clear and pretty warm for ocean water. That night we made pizza for dinner- the one I made was COVERED in veggies! It was delicious!! Saturday it was raining all day and we all relaxed until dinner time were we got all dressed up and went out for seafood! The restaurant was called Scampis Marina Seafood and it looked over the ocean. It was such a pretty
sight! I ordered a $48 meal but...no worries- Heather and I shared it. It had lobster, shrimp, and tons of fruit! It was MORE than enough for the two of us. On Sunday, we had left around noon to head back to school. To eliminate the car sickness, I took some medicine to make me drowsy and I was fine! It was SUCH an awesome weekend!!
The next weekend, on Saturday, March 12th, an event called THUNDERBOLTS took place at Drummond and Smith. Everyone dresses up as hicks with flannel shirts and other red neck attire. The day consists of relaxing outside, music, bon fire, competitions between each floor at college, a mechanical bull, food, and partying. It was a fun day to enjoy the warm weather! When we had the bonfire, you could roast marshmallows.....BUT s'mores are a very foreign treat to Aussies. GRAHAM CRACKERS DON'T EXIST HERE!!! I couldn't believe it!
Last week, the most interesting part of school was my Coaching class. On Wednesday, our class got a 3 hour training to be certified to coach 5-7 year olds in soccer. It was long but a fun class to be involved in. I also handed
in my first assignment on Thursday. It was due in my Theatre workshop class. The assignment was to research a specific ritual somewhere in the world. The group I decided to be apart of was to find out about ritual cleansing and I chose to write about Meditation in India. We had a 2 page paper to write about our topic. It was stressful, but my Professor, Sue, was extremely helpful and kind when I talked to her. It helps to know that if I have a problem the professors are approachable and willing to help.
Since Thursday was such a stressful day, I was SO happy when Kirsty invited me back to her house for the weekend. We left around 6PM that night, after a difficult hour of waiting for our grab and go order of pizza to be done....we were STARVING! Kirsty lives in a city called Taree, right near the beach! The drive took 3 hours and went by quickly. I got to finally meet(in person not via skype!) her mother, Meg and younger brother, Josh. They made me feel very welcome and comfortable. I was impressed with Josh's behavior the whole weekend. He is 12
and my brothers need to take lessons from him!! (MOM- Josh brushed his teeth when his mum asked him to, took out the garbage, got ready for soccer practice, didn't have his eyes glued to the TV, unpacked the car loaded with groceries, WENT TO BED...geez he was pretty much a golden boy) Since it was so late, we talked for a bit and got ready for bed. I did get to meet Kirsty's boyfriend, Michael, after he got off work. He thought my accent was hilarious and would crack up after I would start speaking. Just a side note- Michael TOTALLY looks like Prince Eric, from The Little Mermaid.....but with green eyes.
On Friday, Kirsty had appointments to go to. She found out that she has to get knee surgery or she will never be able to run again. She really needs some prayers about this!! After the appointments, we went to visit her mum at the day care that she works at! It was so cute!! The children get better food there than we get back at Drummond....but I wasn't too surprised about that one. Then we went shopping around Taree and went for a short beach

Koala sleeping outside of Tom's house! trip. We collected some shells and I thought I spotted a sand dollar but when I went to pick it up it was actually bird poop....awesome! That night, we had a delicious home cooked meal of chicken pastry wrap with some sort of yummy mustard sauce and veggies from their garden. MMmmMM- it was finger licking good! I gave up my vegetarianism for that night- whoops! After dinner, we had ice cream and I tried Milo. It is a chocolate milk drink but Kirsty recommended that you don't stir in the powder and just eat it? It was interesting and the idea is growing on me. We ended the night by watching a movie and headed to bed.
On Saturday, we had plans to go to the Billabong Koala Park! We spent all day there seeing the animals. There were tons of hands on activities like feeding the kangaroos, petting a koala, holding a snake, petting a crocodile and petting a dingo (which is like a wolf that lives in OZ). My favorite was tied with seeing the koalas and feeding the kangaroos.....I was feeding a mama with a joey in her pouch! It was so cute to see

Heather and I shared a $48 meal! the joey poke his head out. Make sure you check out all my photos of the park! It was incredible!! Being at the park made us all to tired we had to take naps until dinner time. We went to Kirsty's favorite restaurant called Sailo's. It was right on the river and even though it was dark, the view of the bridge was pretty. Kirst helped me order, which ended up being a massive platter! The dish was filled with chips (not called french fries here!), vegetables, and a fish the size of my leg. It was very tasty but extremely filling. When we got back to Kirsty's, her aunt and grandma were there to surprise her. They just got back from a trip in Queensland. Since this meant that her cousins were home too we all headed over to her aunt's house to see them. They were such adorable girls- Marley(pronounced without the R...Maley) and Ruby!! After an hour or so of playing with the girls we left to head back. After a long day, we started to watch Kangaroo Jack but I fell asleep.
On Sunday, Kirsty made breaky- pancakes, hot-cross buns, fruit....YUM! We got ready to
Kangaroos on Campus
One day walking down to college, the kangaroos were resting.... go for some shopping in a near by beach town named, Forster. We spent a long time wondering around until we noticed it was 4 in the afternoon and we had to get going back to UNI soon. Josh helped us pack the car and we were on our way back to school. It was the best weekend and a fabulous way to end a stressful week of school.
I hope to get much better at updating on a daily basis!
Thanks for reading!
Love,
Rebekah
