3 BBQ's down, one to go
Christmas has sprung into action in Sydney. Last year Clover Moore was
deemed the Xmas Grinch by that quality newspaper the Daily Telegraph. In
an effort to combat any suggestions that she gives coal to children for
Christmas presents, this year she has pulled out all stops. Everywhere
you look some part of Sydney has been decked out in gaudy xmas
decorations. My particular favourites are the scary red xmas trees that
are lining both sides of Pitt Street Mall. A combination of Dalek, red
pillar mail box and Peter Allen outfit, these trees look like they are
about a ton each and could crush a small child in a single fall. I was
pleased to see that someone had taken to one with a baseball bat the
other day. What great xmas cheer!

It was unclear to me which event I was most looking forward to this week
- our "Farewell to Yvette and Patrick Christmas Party" or the premier of
Harry Potter 4, the Goblet of Fire. Needless to say both events were a
lot of fun. I was proud that Tania made a super effort to dress up as a
witch to the Harry Potter Premier (I

particularly liked her chopstick
cum wand creation). She was the only person in Westfield Bondi Junction
Greater Union who was in HP gear. I have heard reports that there were
plenty of people at Fox Studios who dressed up at the premier. It makes
me wonder about the different clientele at the two theatres. WBJ is like
turning up at Melbourne fashion week, however I happily bring down the
tone of the place. Go the hoody!

So Harry Potter 4 - The Goblet of Fire, may very well be the best piece
of cinematography I have ever seen. I even managed to sit through the
2.5 hour epic without fidgeting too much. Cho Chang has a very odd
accent and I was bitterly disappointed to discover she was NOT Laurie
from neighbours. So where did Laurie disappear to, did she really in
fact go to Lorne to become a hairdresser?

The Farewell/Christmas Party was a great success and proves once again
that 50 Mill Hill Road may very well be the very coolest destination in
Bondi Junction! So many people braved the hot conditions to visit the
newly decked out Mill Hill establishment. Taking a leaf from Clover's

book, Ross and Jonathon decked out the house in purple and silver xmas
decorations. The house now looks like it has been designed for a
Priscilla Queen of the Desert Christmas Special, but no matter. Of
special note is the Christmas Tree dedicated to Kylie and her struggle
against breast cancer - it has one bauble missing.

Some of the highlights of the party included:

Dancing with Yvette and Marnie to George Harrison;
The Hoffters Larger that Bling Bling brought as farewell presents;
Krumping versus Clowning, Patrick and Rita style;
Finding out Adam WAS in fact 42;
Seeing Karen cut it loose on the dance floor with baby on board;
Having Lisa get excited at our D grade CNNNNN celebrity guest;
The seafood at the WBSFB a few hours earlier;
The leaky glow sticks;
The asian guy who lied about being from Mauritius, I mean COME ON!

Thanks everyone for coming. It's the end of an era but a new one is
about to start with the introduction of Danny to the house as
replacement for Yvette and myself.
