Sydney Busker
He was awesome! We gave him some money, and I have a video. So on the 25th we returned to Sydney, and I have no record of what we actually did that evening. BUT I'm pretty sure that was "movie night" at our hostel. The original plan was to show the terrible Eddie Murphy film, "Norbit", but while Danae and I were riding the lift they made the exciting announcement that the movie was being change to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We shared a MASSIVE high five which may have slightly scared the random guy in the lift with us. And then we went to movie night, far too excited. But there was free popcorn, and a random kid who was really keen to serve it. So it was good times.
Oh and we also did LAUNDRY. WOO!
The Powerhouse Museum On Sunday the 26th we decided to go see the Powerhouse Museum. Well, I decided I really wanted to go and Danae decided not to argue with me. I could see in her face that she wasn't that keen, but boy was she glad she didn't resist. It was AWESOME!! First thing we did was attend a dramatic performance entitled "Australia's first pregnant man". It was hilarious, they had a guy
Entrance to Chinatown
I love that quotation, "within the four seas all men are brothers". And I recognize TWO of the chinese characters! The second from the left means 1 and the one on the right means 4. Go CHINA 101!! pretending to be pregnant and telling the story about this medical breakthrough. Then we were invited to ask questions. The funny part was at the end - apparently some people thought it was REAL (and not just a play) and wished the guy good luck with childbirth! It was all in all a very interesting performance.
After the play we headed through the museum starting from the bottom floor. Where do I begin? There were exhibits about music, computers, houseware, aviation, fashion...The museum closed when we were only halfway through! It was quite sad, I'll never know what I missed on the 3rd and 4th floors...
The Sydney Tower We decided to head to the Sydney Tower next, to catch the sunset from the top. When we got there, however, there was a looong line and we ended up missing the sun.
I have to say, I've been to many of the world's random towers (CN, Calgary, Eiffel, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, etc) and the Sydney Tower is BY FAR the WORST of them all. The entire way around they have bright lights shining onto the windows, so no matter where you are you get serious glare. I
actually stole a random sign to block some of the glare so I could take some pictures. It was sooo bad.
And there's more! When you're going up they take this picture of you AT THE BOTTOM. We were thinking they'd probably have it on some computer at the top and you could get it printed if you wanted. But no. They actually just go ahead and make a whole series of really crappy postcards where they superimpose your picture on the tower or over-top of the city. Oh AND they make a CD with all these stupid pictures on them. Then they have it there, FULLY MADE UP, and ask you to dish out something like $30 for it! So then if you DON'T buy it, it actually just ends up in the trash. What a stupid waste!! And can't they at least take your picture at the TOP instead of sticking some crap picture overtop of a stupid background??
Danae and I harassed some VERY rude employees about this. All in all, we were annoyed. Fortunately this wasn't the end of our time in Sydney yet, we were just about to embark on another little trip
out of town...
