We arrived in Sydney after most uncomfortable overnight bus journey ever! Australia greyhound beats US greyhound for not having loads of criminals on the bus, but the bus itself was way less comfortable!
Adrienne took a grudge against Sydney on the first day there, as we had to spend ages trying to find our way onto the Harbour Bridge! We made it eventually, but decided not to go further up the pylon lookout asd the view from the bottom of the bridge was exactly the same as the view from the bridge, and we had learnt our lesson from Auckland! We then decided to go the Sky Tower, but when we went to buy our tickets we were told it was an hour and a half wait to go up and the same to get back down so we didnt bother doing that, and as yet we still havent! It was not the most successful first day!
However sydney is really beautiful, and we found a lovely placve to watch the sun go down over the Opera house and the bridge, where we decided to try to outdo each other for our artsy shots of it, but both
our pics were fairly crap!
The second day we were here, we got the ferry to Taronga Zoo. When you get there, you get taken on a cable car ride up to the zoo's main entrance so we got a birds eye view of all the animals and an amazing view of the sydney skyline! (We also learned elephants look fat from above). We had a really good day in the zoo, they had loads of areas where there was a path right through the animals enclosures, so a few times we had wallabies hop right next to us! They also let you get you photo taken with the animals but paul wouldnt let me waste my money on that 😞 Anyhow you get greeted at the zoo enterance by some fuzzy grey blobs, which as you get closer appear to be Koala's. They dont do much, just hang there, so they tried to feed them a joey!! (only they were to slow to catch him). It started raining towards the end of the day and we didnt have coats/an umbrella with us, so we sprinted all the way round the asian animals, but had really good day apart
from that! Highlight was a bear who got his face stuck in a tub, and lowlight was all the annoying kids who had to scream to the person standing right next to them that they could see whichever animal they were looking at!
We came to australia thinking it would be full of venomous creatures, so there's been much toilet seat checking, yet so far excluding the zoo, we have not seen any wildlife,(With the exception of birds, especially parrots - they are everywhere!). So we set about looking for them and decided to spend the next day in the bush!
We got up super early (CaveBoy paul took lots of persuading!) the next day to go to the Blue Mountains! Train was the slowest and most inefficient i have ever been on, as it took 2 hours to get there cos it never went more than 2 mile per hour. we had tickets for the explorer bus in the blue mountains, so we listened to all the commentary then did our walks. We did one where we went through the rainforest right into the valley, down millions of steps! When we got to the bottom, we got
a train back up to the top on the steepest railway either of us have ever seen! The train moved really quickly up the track amazingly, considering looking at it from the bottom it seemed as if it would defy gravity to get the train to the top up such a steep track - it was more like a rollercoaster carriage than an actual train so we were wary of getting on but had no other was to get to the top! We did another 2 walks that day, which was probably too much in the winter, not only because the buses dont run past 5pm, but also because the sun sets early, so we were practically runnning through the rainforest on our last walk to avoid being stuck there all night! (which was looking incresingly likely as we were lost in the forest at 4.45 - trust our luck that it was the worst signposted trail in the history of the universe!) We did just make it to the bus though and got the train back to sydney so it was all good. After spendin a whole day in the wild we still had a nice big 0 on
our interesting wildlife count!!
Today we have been at Bondi beach. Bondi is a really nice area, with loads of little cafes and shops. The beach is smaller than i imagined though, but the waves are massive - it is definitely a surfers beach! Was much quieter than the beach in Hawaii and the only people in the sea were surfing, no one jumping waves as we would have been doing! We also walked along the rocks by the sea, to try to take some artsy shots of the waves crashing against the rocks - we will try to put them on soon, but have just about used up all our credit now!
