I dont know what the chinese call china - even when things are written with english alphabet we dont know how to say them! Saw an Irish bar and a marksys in hong kong, but no sign so far in china, though we have been looking at all the traditional stuff rather than modern so far!
china Do the chinese call China china? Has brains beer reached beijing? I bet there is an oirish bar serving guiness somewhere and Marks
and Spencer will be on global high street China version.
From my LED Magazine I found-
"A new retail center in Beijing features a giant suspended LED Skyscreen. A huge suspended LED screen forms the centerpiece of The Place, a new retail development in Beijing's central business district. The Skyscreen is 250 m long and 30 m wide, and screen is suspended six stories high (80 feet) above a plaza between two new retail centers. " Maybe worth a look and a picture if you are passing.
Heehee, we have beijing travel guide and paul is going to look up how to say that he isnt harry potter in chinese, though think they were probs so excited that he might have been that they wouldnt have listened even if they had have understood!
August weather hasnt been that amazing here, it has rained quite a bit since we left Magnetic Island, but it is sunny again now, just in time for us leaving - typical!
HP etc I like names. wonder how long it took to dream up the name "Townsville" for a place! Maybe it should have been prefixed by "onehorse". There has just been an Aussie from Queensland interviewed on Bamburgh beach by the Tyne Tees equivalent of "Look North". He did reckon the sands were better at Bamburgh but wasnt overchuffed with the November weather.
Can you find the chinese for "Yes, I really am Harry Potter" . Could be useful on the next part of your trip!

We have seen the odd little spider, but being in Australia I just assume it is all poisonous! Every wildlife place we go that has snakes I try to memorise what they look like so I know when I have to run away!
Spiders You mean to say you haven't come across any great big horrible spiders or creepy crawlies yet, or little deadly ones either. Or what about all the snakes they are supposed to have out there?
We havent sampled much in the way of aussie cuisine - have been sticking religiously to food courts so have had loads of noodles and curries! Will look out for the ricotta hotcakes though!
Koalas feel just like sheep! They dont smell of eucalyptus, but we tried squishing some eucalyptus leaves and they stink! Apparently they get lighter coats as you move northwards as the climate is warmer, so our queensland koalas might be a bit different!
Wombats are v cute, but only one we saw was fast asleep! Tasmanian devil is the one i feel most sorry for - the one we saw in the zoo at sydney was running round in big circles like a total nutter!
Australian Wildlife Do Koalas fell like a brillo pad and do they smell of eucalyptus?
Which Austrailian wildlife do you feel most sorry for? Wombats look pretty gormless fat and slow and haven't had much of a mention so far!

Mount coot Just had a little look ahead on the internet. Mount coot in brisbane gives some good views of the city and has a nice little cafe at the top. Whats the aussie cuisine like? I can remember watching "Bill's food" on Saturday Kitchen on the telly, and being inspired to make "ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter" (pancakes with crushed up crunchie butter) which apparently sold like hotcakes in "Bills" his iconic Sydney cafe. Had a look at some reviews of "Bills" and it got a slating-probably the Aussie equivalent of "Bettys". Love Dad
lol, I can imagine! Have they got my postcard yet? it was a free one from the meighbours tour! I got my necklace in New Zealand, it is made from Paua Shell, I have a ring that matches too! I dont know if I said on the blog but Rosie said she liked my necklace too making her my new fave neighbours character!
lorainelawson@whittont.fsnet.co.uk I bet you can just see the grin on Granny and Papas faces with you standing next to old Dr Karl, by the way I like your necklace that you have on in those pics!!
Love Mum xxx
We have TV in our room, but are watching more aussie big bro than news - their nomination system is better than ours as if they dont give good enough reasons for nominating then they get nominated!
Sydney I think koalas stink of eucalyptus so are maybe not as cuddly as they look. Sydney has been the news here, someone out of control driving a tank sometime in the last couple of days. You are maybe not watching enough telly to keep up with the news!
