Hi Guys..........
Again, apologies for the length of time between blogs but as I've mentioned its not as easy as you would think!!! Since leaving Brisbane we've been in Byron Bay, Sydney, Melbourne and back to Sydney again!!
After my last blog we left Brisbane and our next stop was Byron Bay!! We loved it as soon as we truned up, its got such a cool chilled out vibe about it, its got a beautiful beach and lots of really nice shops, bars, restaurants, etc!! When we checked into our hostel we met the lads and so went down the beach with them for a while then came back and met our room mates of the legendary room 16!! Basically we' realised we'd checked into the party room and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left our room was a full on party!! Our room mates were the best yet, really nice guys Ed & Adam and Ed's girlfriend, Gabby who joined us later.
Our first full day in Byron we took a walk up to the lighthouse and got some amazing pictures, saw loads of Dolphins and literally walked up about 1000 steps!! It
was definitely worth it though, the views were amazing!! That night was abit of a crazy one, We went out with the lads and we ended up going to a party which went on till the early hours! They decided that it had to be fancy dress which i didn't have so i was loaned a pair of pink trunks and a nice green vest, see pics!! I'm sure you'll agree I looked great!!
The next few days were spent lazing on the beach or in the room according to the weather. (we had a couple of days of rain!) The evenings were spent "socialising".......haha.
After Byron we got the night bus down to Sydney which was a nice 13.5 hour bus ride. We arrived in Sydney in the morning and the 2 Adams who we met in Byron let us stay at their pad in Sydney! Its a gorgeous flat right on the beach near Manly! The day we arrived we had a look around Manly and had some lunch then just chilled out in the evening and the following day me and Zo went to Darling Harbour in the city to meet the lads (Chris, Al,
Pete, Jon) to say our final goodbyes to them! It was pretty sad as we've been travelling with them for the past month but i'm sure we'll be having a re-union in 2008 when we're all home!! That afternoon, me and Zo literally ran through Sydney trying to get our ferry on time and missed it by one minute. We were on our way to go on Grif's (Adam1) dads yacht around the harbour bridge and the Opera House!! (Yes I know, pretty good for 2 backpackers!! Living the highlife!! haha) Anyway, it was such a good night, the view at night around the harbour is spectacular and we had some wine and chilled out and it was just amazing!! (Thanks Adam, Griff & Daddy Griff!!)
The next day we had our sad farewell with Adam (Adam - you have to come up to Manchester when i'm back) and we flew down to Melbourne where we spent our next week!! We were so depressed when we got to Melbourne. It was cold and raining and we just wished we could be back in Sydney! The next day we went for a look around the city and we soon cheered
up when we went to the Queen Victoria Markets and saw all of this amazing food!! (Not that me and Zo are obsessed with food or anything!!) The cakes were amazing so we had to sample them, Zo literally got a slab of Carrot cake (see pic)!! Anyway, it was all delicious and we started to think that Melbourne might be ok after all!!
The next morning we picked up the "Wicked" campervan to do our Great Ocean Road trip!! To say it was wicked was totally false advertising!! It was a wreck of a campervan and we had the prospect of spending a week in the thing!! Anyway, off we went with no plan or clue where we were going!! We headed to the Great Ocean Road and realised that it was getting colder and colder the further south we went!! The GOR was amazing and I got some great pics but that night as we snuggled down for our first night in our sulubrious home we realised that we were in for a few very cold nights sleep!! I think me and Zo both came to the realisation that we're not made for camping in sub-zero condiitions!!
We basically lived on soup and cups of tea for 3 days!! The highlight of the trip was the last day when we drove into the Grampians and did some wine tasting which was free!!
The next day we decided that enough was enough and even though we'd paid for this shed of a campervan we couldn't face another night in it so we went and checked into a hostel in Melbourne and that was the end of the campervan for the week. A total waste of money but hey ho, you live and learn hey!!
After this we had a good few days in Melborne and really grew to like the city, especially St. Kilda in southern melbourne. Its basically a really cool beach side town with nice bars and apparently the best cake shops in Aus!! (No Nick DJ, I haven't lost my cake fetish on this trip!!)
Now we're in Sydney and reality is finally starting to settle in!! I've got a job which I start next Tuesday and I've got to find somewhere to live! Zo leaves in just under a week and its going to be like losing my right arm, we've
Byron Bay beach
Lots of hot surfers everywhere!!! Lots of hot surfers everywhere!!!been with eachother 24 hours a days for the last 10 weeks so it will be wierd and I'll miss her loads!! Luckily i've already got a good group of friends here who'll look after me so i'm sure it will all be good!!
The last week or so in Sydney, we've been doing the tourist thing and have been round all the sights, the opera house, harbour bridge, blue moutains, etc which has been really nice and I've been trying to get my bearings in the city. It is an amazing city and I'm sure I'm going to love it here!!
Anyway, Thats all for now but we'll be in touch soon.........
Take care, hope all is well at home!
Love
