And so begins another day in sunny Sydney. Bit of an earlier start as Shane chatted to his SFU advisor at 7am. "C.C." came over for a pet while I drank a lovely cup of tea. Dishes were washed, showers had and off we went!
Early morning starts are my favourite. Fast-paced walk in the morning to Warringah Mall, mostly along a busy road but next to the Warringah Golf Course so it wasn't too bad. Got to the mall and wandered around for a couple of hours, trying to find zip-off travel trousers for me, a hat for Shane, and a few other bits and bobs.
Having had a fairly productive shopping trip, we were off in a taxi to the dressmakers in Belrose for a fitting at 2pm. I arrived at the dressmaker's all excited to try on my bridesmaid's dress for Maja's wedding, put it on, and was not overly impressed. Just looked a bit like a sack. Kind of freaked me out at first but of course, it is just the first fitting and the shell is barely even made. Liz (the Dressmaker), did a few tucks and pins here and there, explained a few things, and then I felt much better.
Mr. & Mrs. Mental then found the bus station by the tree (as instructed) and promptly learned something new about Sydney. Not all areas are serviced by the same bus company, as our normal bus tickets were rejected and we were required to purchase $10 worth of bus tickets to get into town.
Off we went into the CBD and began a hunt a for the cold stone ice cream place Shane swears he's seen every day...which then led to a search for the Baskin Robbins I swear I saw last week in the Sydney Centre...when resulted in us just getting ice cream from a random shop that wasn't so good. P.J. O'Brien's (a pub Maja told us to go to) was then our next destination as the ice cream search was such a bust. Quite a cute place really. Rang Kramer to tell him where we were and he met us there after work, having a few pints whilst waiting for Maja to pick us up.
She picked the three of us up and off to went to Glebe (a hip part of Sydney) to a Lebanese restaurant with Mark and Jess. The food was FABLUOUS, best babaganoush in town. Usually, in this situation, we would get a bit tipsy and lo and behold, we were true to form. Very cool how in Oz there are all kinds of "BYO" restaurants...so of course we had great wine (picked by Kramer). What a great night we had, good friends, nice friends and friends and super tasty food. X-rated conversation then followed in the car on the way home, mostly based on the musings of Flight of the Conchords. You had to have been there.
Zoinks (as Sonia would say), I can predict a slow morning tomorrow.
