Byron Bay
Kris, Tony and I. Our flight to Brisbane was pretty low key. We arrived into Brisbane and got a transfer to our hostel where we bascially got some dinner then went to sleep for over 12 hours. The next day we headed straight to Byron Bay to meet up with Kristyn's cousin Tony and to check out this legendary beach. In between showers of rain and intermittent sunshine we were able to hit the beach for a few days, grab some sun and get pounded by the surf. Spent a few nights checking out the towns bars and kebab shop which got a working over. Byron Bay is a really cool place, it was just a pity the weather wasn't great.
From Byron we headed north to Surfers Paradise where we stayed with some friends from our Africa trip (thanks Sean and Melissa!). We crashed at their house that was only a couple of minutes walk to the main beach in Surfers, absolutely primo location. We went to the Big Day Out where we feared for our lives with the push of the crowd when Rage Against The Machine came on. We shot to the back pretty quickly and were stoked that all our
Typical Byron weather
We woke up to weather like this each of our 5 day stay ay Byron jandals remained intact!! Many interesting people came out of the wood work and this seasons colour seems to be........ "fluro!!" Obviously all this travelling hasn't allowed us to keep up with the latest fashions and we didn't have an ounce of fluro on us ! There were some extremely hideous outfits worn though which kept us entertained all day! 50,000 people attended, and the chance of taxis home slim, so we walked home which took only 1 1/2 hours, in the rain!!!! This time allowed us to ..... sober up a bit! Next day Kristyn and I went to Wet 'n' Wild water park where we had a great time, the only downer being waiting for a ride for up to 40 minutes at a time!!! We thoroughly enjoyed Surfers and can't wait to go back there again.
Well our travel curse came back and bit us squarely in the arse again so I suppose it was really only a matter of time before it reared its ugly head. Our plane from Brisbane to Singapore had a problem with an emergency light inside that they could not fix, so all Singapore only bound passengers (60 of us in total) were
Fluro is the new 'black!"
The fashion of Big Day Out '08 told to get off the flight or else the plane could not take off. We went through immigration, waited for our bags, cleared customs and lined up again to check into a domestic flight from Brisbane to Sydney (which we nearly missed) got to Sydney, with the connecting flight held up (with 1 customs officer at immigration) and finally arrived in Singapore at 4am a mere 9 hours behind schedule!!!
In Singapore we have been catching up with Elvie and Loami which has been fantastic, but also my sister Erin and her boyfriend Thomas. We also had a look around Elvie's school and met the Head Teacher of primary and also secondary as we are hoping to get jobs here. We got a really good feeling about the school and have our hearts set on it, so fingers crossed!!We love Singapore, the weather is gorgeous (never below 20 degrees), the food awesome, it's so clean and the taxi drivers are halarious! We went to a beer brunch on Sunday for $40 which was all you could drink beer plus a german buffet that consisted of everything you can think of! When we get back from India we are going
Big Day Out
Our fellow groovers.. Sean,Melissa,Kris, and I to a similar thing but instead it's all you can drink Moet and Chandon champagne!!! As you can imagine I am hanging out for that one!!!
We fly out to India on Friday which has been problematic, but we are finally definitely going. We couldn't book our flights as the airline wouldn't accept UK, USA, European or NZ credit cards! But we worked it out in the end only to find that it takes 5 working days for visitors to Singapore to get a visa. We managed to get a guy at the embassy who seemed to like us as he was quite impressed with Scott's facial hair (really!) and plus the fact that we are teachers. So we got it down to 4 working days for a small fee of course!!We still had to go back to the Air India office to change our flight but it has worked out in the end.
Anyone who wants the curse passed on to them for a bit of a laugh, please let us know!
