Woohoo!!! New South Wales!!!!
Hey!!
Hows the weather in England? Bet getting bit colder now???
We've just left Bryon Bay and have had a wicked week! Prob my fav place on the East Coast so far!
We started off staying at the famous Arts factory...and what a mental hostel! It is set on the outskirts of Byron Bay in a woodland area! The rooms are really basic (literally a bed and a bin in the room and nothing else which seemed to depress Nik!) Some of the rooms were made from an old bus which they had converted...wanted to stay in that but was full! You weren't even allowed to use your hairdryer in your room - got fined if you got caught! But it's coz it was a hippy place! And it really was full of wierd hippys! Felt bit out of my place making tea on the first night and having to ask a hippy how to use this wierd contracption which was meant to be a tin opener! Looked down their noses at us a bit to be honest! But the overall vibe there was good! Everyone so layed back and happy...guess thats coz
they were stoned 24/7!! Funny!!!!
Byron Bay itself was really nice too! The beach was gorgous (and full of surfers!Hmmm!) and the town had loads of nice boutique shops! Be hard to be on a diet here too as there were so many cake shops with every cake you could imagine...really is a stoner town hey! We went to the famous Cheeky Monkeys pub on the first day! We have been hearing about this place since Thailand...a backpacker orientated bar where you can dance on the tables (one of the only 3 bars in Oz where you are allowed to!) and the drinks are dirt cheap! Went there for tea only (was flip a coin...if got heads your meal was free! Only Sars won that one!)...5 hours later we stumbled out! We had wiped the bar out winning all the drinking competitions...not cheesy ones! Stuff like first one to hand the guy $2.40 would get the jug of beer for that price! Got bit cheesy by the end...Nikki ended up on the stage hola-hooping in her bikini to get a free jug! And we all had to kiss a guy who'd been crunching on a onion - really grim!
But we had put away a fair few jugs and champagne by then (and hardly spent a penny!)!!! And then I got a free fish for the fish bowl competition! People bidded for fish from different countries, bought the fish and then raced them against each other! Won $400 if fastest fish so worth it!! Its great being a girl sometimes as I get New Zealand for free! Woohoo!!! Or prob not woohoo as the fish lost miserably! Oh well!!! Was funny night though!
Then next few days spent chilling on the beach and watching the live bands on at the Arts Factory! Was nice!!!
After couple of days decided seen enough of Arts Factory and so moved into the main part of Bryon Bay! Was place called Holiday Village and by far the best place we have stayed in Oz! There was an offer on so got a room upgrade...had like an apartment! Walked in and had kitchen and tv area, then the rooms were off the side! Was nice to have a room to chill in other then bunk bed rooms! And 2 Brazilian girls who were sharing with us were really nice! Got on great
with them!
The place gave us free bike hire too so yep, we attempted to bike! Did really well! Rode all the way to the highest point in Bryon where there was a light house! Supposed to be able to see the whales swimming past from there, but had started to rain so no luck! Views were gorgeous though! Could see for miles!
Then on the Friday night we went out! Was a funny night!!! They have loads of nice bars there, so went o some of them first (after drinking the old goon in the hostel first...backpackers way! eek!)! And we had heard loadsa good stuff about a club called La La Land so decided to try there! Only we had been told that you have to get there early or you won't get in! Got there early and hardly anyone there! by time it started to fill up we were a little drunk and bored of the place (was tiny - only one room!) so left! Was walking to another club when saw loads of people gathering in the street...went to see what the deal was and it ended up being some mad hippy party! Was
crazy!!! So alcohol fueled there we were dancing away in the street with a mental bunch of hippies! Could only happen in Bryon Bay!
The next night we decided to go out again! Just went to some of the local bars this time...ended up battered as always (its the goon! Lethal!)...which was bad idea as the day after we were up early to go on our Nimbin tour! We all felt really really rough, and almost cancelled it! But we had heard so much about Nimbin that we had to go and see it for ourselves! And so glad we did coz have to say it was the wierdest day ever!
Not sure if you would have heard of Nimbin, but is bout half an hour away from Bryon! And is a tiny village (there;s only one small street and thats it!) that has been around for years...and is where all the true hippies live! And is suppose to be like a mini Amsterdam! We booked a tour with 'The Happy Coach' and it defo lived up to its name! The driver Fred seemed stoned when we first got on (but prob all an act!)...still had us laughing
even with a hangover! We stopped at some waterfalls first, then at the Hippy market! That was ace! Loadsa nice organic food and nice clothes! Just mooched around it for an hour!!
Then into Nimbin! It really was the wierdest town ever! We got out and went into a pub for a drink! And all the hippy's were just chilling and getting stoned!! haha!!! They were so chilled out that they gave out drinks but never once saw them charge anyone! Too stoned to bother! Was a pretty quiet bus ride back...everyone was either munching or sleeping! Biazarre!
Anyway, keep the messages coming as great to hear from ya all! Wanna know what you's have been up to also...not just me babbling on!
Miss ya all!
