2 more sleeps. Excited? you bet. I just wish Donna would consider packing.

We did get to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Not sure how much we will see even though we will be in the "correct" time zone. It's a bit different from our normal trip as most of it is guided tour, which doesn't leave a huge amount of time to do our own thing. I think we get 4 or 5 half days off. That might take some getting used to.

I do like the idea of sitting in a bar/cafe (kaffihús) watching the Icelandic men's handball team play Great Britain in the heats (August 7 1.15am AEST).

It's also our first big trip in the era of connectivity. Taking computers, phones, chargers. Working out the best communications package. I recall friends who took their iphone to Europe for 6 weeks. Bill shock you ask? Bill wasn't shocked. Stephen was. And shock would be an understatement.

So we have brought out the least smart (=dumbest) phone we can find and will drop a SIM card in it in each country. The amazing thing is that, while Europe may be attempting some sort of supra-national overarching structure for government, no such luck when it comes to telecommunications. In Denmark, you can see Sweden across the strait, but there is no pan-scandinavian phone company, even though the companies are all represented in each company. Og Vodafone (Iceland), TDC Denmark, TDC Norway are all Vodafone. But don't even think of crossing a border without us bumping up the call price!

Back to the cycling road race.

We agree that on this trip we are far more connected than the old days.
We didn't bring a phone. If we need to make calls we will use skype via our computer as it is so darn cheap.
