At the "Ice" Show
My niece Tarena, my sister Joyce, me and my other niece, Danette in our parkas at the "Ice" Show. It was cold! CHAPTER 2
Wed. Dec 3. Well, after a couple of months of getting ready, Sam and I are on the way! We left about 10:00 and drove about 7 hours and 300 miles, just past Defuniack Springs to a resort campground on a lake. Quite a large one and expensive. ($27.00) I couldn’t find a Wal-Mart or other place to boondock, so wound up paying because it was after dark. I let Sam out and wondered if he wwould be able to find our RV among so many. The RV was a wreck inside. I have a lot to learn about packing and putting things so they don’t rattle, bounce and fall out or off of something. Lots of stuff on the floor!
Sam--Silly woman, thinks I don’t know my own home! I had no trouble getting back home. Still, I had to find some way to remind her I don’t like it when home is moving! I got back at Mommy for all that traveling we did yesterday. I ran off and stayed gone all day. Boy, was she glad to see me when I finally came in! I don’t even think she was mad she had to The North Wind
This ice sculpture was over the door to the entrance of the "Ice" show. pay another 27.93 for an extra day. (She did tell her sister that she would take it out of my allowance, ha! Ha!)
Dec. 5 I stopped for awhile in Vicksburg, Miss. I would like to come back and explore some more. I just didn’t feel that I could take the time I really needed here. There are many murals at the river front and some good picture opportunities. I just have the feeling I need to move on and get to Texas.
Dec. 6 Boondocked at a shopping plaza, near a movie theatre in Longview TX. It is cold and I had to run the big heater. First time for that!
Dec 7, Sun. Got into Dallas early this afternoon. Called Danette and got directions to Farmer’s Branch and met her at an exit near a hospital, where she led me to her place. I backed the RV into her driveway with helpful directions from her. It fits very nicely and still leaves room for her truck and any other cars that come. Joy and Dan drove over from Tarena’s house. Dan was pleased he didn’t have to back the RV in and maybe a little
Colorful "Ice" Sculptures
More of the fabulous sculptures at the show. surprised that I could do it.
That night Danette drove us to the small town of Waxahatchie. They featured a live Bethlehem display that covered several acres. There were small buildings of “stores” that would have been in the real Bethlehem. These stores included a money changer’s bench, a jeweler, a wine makers store, the village inn, a pottery place, a woman carding and selling wool, a place where the wool was spun, a baker, etc. Naturally, there was the stable. Across the street Herod’s “palace” was set. We could follow the wise men (with real camels and donkeys) and the shepherds (with real sheep) to the live nativity scene. It was beautiful and very impressive. There were many actors involved with portraying the people. We were told that most of the churches in the town participated in this annual production. I enjoyed it immensely, but grieved that I hadn’t taken my camera!!!!
Dec, 8. Danette and I spent the day getting out ornaments and decorating her tree. I also rested.
Sam--We seem to have quit the traveling for now. I am sure glad! I have been exploring the yard here. This place has the fattest What fun!
I was the only one brave enough to take a ride on Santa's slide at the "Ice" show. squirrels I have ever seen. I think I am going to enjoy it here.
Dec. 9 Dan had his arthroscopic knee surgery today and did well. Danette and I went to see him and Joyce while he was in recovery, then moved into a room at the day surgery center at Baylor Medical Center. Very nice place.
Dec. 11 “The Girls” (Joy, Tarena, Tiffany and I) went to see “Ice” at the fabulous Gaylord Resort this evening. “Ice” is a show of ice sculptures. We had to wear bulky artic gear coats to enter the huge tent where the sculptures are located. The temperature is kept very cold, below zero, in order to preserve the sculptures. I had seen this show a few years ago and was awed by the creativity and the massiveness of the creations. The caliber of the artistry did not seem as good this year. I will have to dig out my old photos to compare. Unfortunately, my batteries died in my camera (even after charging them several hours before going) so I got no pictures. Fortunately, Tiffany’s camera was working and she got some good ones. The photos posted for “Ice” were all taken by Tiffany.
Dec. 12-16. Dan went to the emergency room last night and was admitted to the hospital. He had been having trouble breathing. They never did really get a good diagnosis, but decided, finally, that he must have been on the verge of pneumonia. These days were spent visiting at the hospital. Extremely cold here in Dallas right now.
Sam--You better believe it’s cold. I felt it and I’ve got a fur coat. What’s Mommy doing bringing a Florida cat to these temperatures! She’s been gone a lot, too, so I don’t have anybody to snuggle up to. I just crawl in under the pillows on the bed. They keep me pretty warm.
