Lake Martin Sunset
A relaxing evening on Patti and Bill's boat Organizing pictures can be overwhelming. What other excuse could I have for waiting a whole year to update the blog… On our way to Texas in spring 2010, we stopped in Alabama to visit friends Patti and Bill. We cruised Lake Martin on their boat and jet ski, played lots of Sequence and Wizard, and enjoyed Patti’s great cooking. We loved the area and even looked at a few homes for sale. We have no idea yet when or where we’ll settle down, but it never hurts to look.
After a maintenance stop in Dallas and visits with Dan and Megan, we headed to Branson, since we’ve never been there and were told it was a fun place. We took in a couple of shows and were duly impressed. The billboard for the Titanic show, however, made us shake our heads in amusement.
St. Louis was next--we won a bit at the river casino, enjoyed the art museum and botanical gardens, and had dinner with Diane’s nephew Tim. He’s grown up to be a nice young man.
We then explored Springfield, the small town capital of Illinois, political shenanigans notwithstanding. The Lincoln Presidential Museum was especially interesting, and
Lake Martin Home
No, not Patti and Bill's but Richard Scrushy's (former executive of Healthsouth, now in prison) we toured a Frank Lloyd Wright home. Spring thunderstorms followed us north, but we escaped any damage, thank goodness.
Memorial Day weekend found us with friends Ron and Laurel in Elgin, just west of Chicago. They also are full-time RVers, but have a “home base” here with a great barn, vegetable garden and space for guest hook-ups at “Ropin’ Ronnie’s RV Ranch.” When cold weather comes, they just lock the barn door and head south.
On June 2, we finally rolled in to Traverse Bay RV Resort in Michigan to begin our summer.
