We checked out of our hostel by the 11am checkout and then took on SF, with Katy jampacking another day to make sure Can saw most of her favorite city 😊. We started out by walking along the piers in the opposite direction of the day before, heading towards Giants stadium. We bought sandwiches at the Ferry Building, took a couple photos, and then continued for another 10 minutes or so before turning back towards the car, stopping to get a California sushi roll at a lunch place across from the Ferry Building first. Then, we got in the car to do a quick tour of the famous Lombard Street ("Crookedest street in the world") where Can exclaimed...yea, great, all the roads in Turkey are like this, and then the Victorian houses, were we secured another free parking spot. We took a couple photos in Alamo Square and then walked the few blocks to Haight Street, where we spent time going in and out of shops, taking in the hippie atmosphere. We walked all the way to the end of Haight Street into Golden Gate Park in the open space where all you smell is MJ and all you see are
people relaxing the day away. We didnt tour much of the park, only stopped for a time in the Japanese Tea Garden for some tea and crackers, before heading back to the car out a different way we came in on the road towards Ocean Beach in the opposite direction. We got back to the car around 19:00, got some gas, and then began our trip in Sunnyvale, CA..home of Yahoo!. This day, though a lot of walking, did not result in the same horrible blisters on Can's feet courtesy of sightseeing with Katy in NYC.
*On the way Katy called a couple friends she had met while interning at Yahoo!. Once we got into Sunnyvale, about an hour later, we met Connie and Jeremy for dinner at In N Out Burger so Can could decide against the East Coast Five Guys and the West Coast In N Out. We had our burgers animal style with all the fixings and caught up. Jeremy offered to give us an after hours tour of Y! so Can could see it. We drove over to the main campus and spent the next hour or so touring all the different parts of the
company. Can quickly fell for it, deciding to model any future company around the same ideals.
*By then it was about 22:00, and Jeremy offered to have us stay at his place for the night, where we watched some videos of him skydiving and caught up.
*The next morning we left with Jeremy to Y! to get breakfast in their cafeteria (so good! and so cheap!) and some free coffee...then went to visit quickly with Katy's team from a few summers back, Yahoo! For Good.
*After goodbyes, we began our drive down Route 1, stopping quickly in Santa Cruz to walk along the beach and boardwalk. We decided to drive and spend the night not far in Monetary Bay in Veterans Memorial Park (cheaply!), but wanted to get there before 14:00 to secure a campsite before exploring the small city. We chose our tenting space and then wandered around Cannery Row and the Wharf. We stopped at a few shops and the Monterey Winery for a quick tasting before grabbing the car and driving to the Wharf. Here, in time for dinner, all of the restaurants were handing out free samples of clam chowder to entice you
to take a meal. We settled for a restaurant with a fish and chips and chowder deal and had a couple beers while overlooking the water and a begging seagull that Can kept around by teasing with his chips (fries!). After we drove back up the campsite, set up our tent, and called it a fairly early night, as it was quite cold.
