Thursday morning Dad and I got up early from Gardiner, MT and went into Yellowstone for the day. We drove all through the park stopping at all the neat little places to see. We saw more hot springs, mud pits, Old Faithful, and all sorts of wildlife. We went down one road for a while where there was a herd of at least 200 bison (I counted 80 in just one little area) and we got some great close up photos. We spent most of the morning and afternoon driving south through the park and into Grand Teton National Park. We continued driving through Grand Teton into Jackson, Wyoming where we stopped and had dinner. Dad managed to find a $20 bill in the middle of the road in Jackson while we were crossing the street to go to a restaurant for dinner. All I've found so far is a penny. After dinner in Jackson we drove back north through Grand Teton and into Yellowstone. We got to an intersection in Yellowstone where they were doing construction overnight. We got to the road at 10:07 PM. Construction on the road began at 10PM and the road was closed overnight. So the
ranger told us we had to drive back south and all the way around the opposite side of the park to get back into Montana to our motel. What should have been a 3 hour ride from Jackson, WY to our motel ended up taking us about 5 hours and we got back to our motel just before 1AM. On the way back we were stopped for a while where an elk had been hit and killed by a car. We spoke to the ranger there and he said that they can't leave road kill in the park because it will attract more animals and only create more problems. So we got to watch a bucket loader come in and pick up the elk and remove it to wherever it is they take them to.
Today (Friday) we went back into Yellowstone and drove through the remaining area of the park that we had not been to yet. It rained on and off for most of the morning but we still got some nice photos. We saw the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and then left the park and headed to Cody, WY. On the way we stopped at the
Nice overlook
Dad is in the car Buffalo Bill Dam, which used to be the highest dam in the world. We had dinner in Cody and then continued on to Greybull, WY which is where we are now. Tomorrow we are continuing through Wyoming and heading into South Dakota near Mt. Rushmore where we will spend two nights.
That's all for tonight. It takes a while to upload the photos, that's why the blogging part has been rather short and to the point. I'd rather spend more time posting photos than writing, so hopefully you are enjoying the photos. Lastly, Dad and I have been taking photos of all kinds of different wildflowers we have seen along the way. I've already posted some of them but I posted a few more here. Hope you enjoy.
