Washington in a Day

Early rise puts us out the front of our apartment, into our van and on the road to Washington by 0700. First stop was Delaware, just a quick stop for a pretzel at Cinabon and a quick coffee, extra weak. Another pit stop at Maryland and then into the heart of freedom and the white glare of the Capital. May the odds be in your favour.

Straight into the fray with a tour of Capitol Hill. God I love my politics, maybe even as much as Ollie (check the OMG I'm bored pic). Out of the frying pan into the fire in the top seats of the Senate and watching nobody listen to some dude wallow on about some Russian theory involving Trump. Can not get enough! Do I really have to leave.

Got out of there and filled up on a pulled pork roll in the pollies grub hall. Can see why nobody is happy in the place. Maybe we could go and see some more white buildings.... Your wish is my command. Jefferson Library of Congress. White brick. Check. White columns. Check. Imposing flagpole or statue. Check. Well that pretty much sums up all of Washington.

So let me just quickly run through all the other sites we went to that meet pretty much that same criteria:

Martin Luther King Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

The other really cool part of the day was the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum which we had limited time to go through and we really could have spent a whole lot more time checking out. By the time it was time to leave it was well past our bedtime and still a long haul back.

Still time enough to stop in at an Italian joint called Amicis in Baltimore, and you know it has to be good when there are pics of the God Father movie all around the joint.

The traffic was even crapper than every other time in America so we didn't get back to our accoms until 01.30. Gonna be a slow day tomorrow....wrong.
