Today was a great day. I thought my phone was dying from getting wet but it wasn't. I found a Verizon store not too far away and they checked it all out and said "No, the wet indicator was not saying it got wet. It just needed a signal and several updates and a charge. They took care of all that and me in the process. I felt SO out of touch without my phone, now I'm back in business.
On the way to the phone store I spotted a mountain off to my right and wondered which one it was. I knew Portland had Mt Hood, Seattle has Mt Rainier, so what is this one? It turns out it's Mt Baker, seems to be just as tall and dramatic as the other 2, I couldn't keep my eyes off of it.
I checked out Anacordes, where the phone store was, and found it just had some shops, nothing too interesting. I went through town and wound my way to Washington Park at the northern tip of the Island. It was a beautiful park with many people enjoying the afternoon in the sun. Some brave souls were even in
the water really cooling off. The ferries passed by, picture, and there were other boaters on the water. The shore line is made up of small round or oval stones of various colors and driftwood, lots of driftwood. We walked around and just sat for a while to get the feel of the place.
I had looked at a map and decided I would take the scenic route to Deception Pass, a must see on anybody's tour of the island. The road was hard to find but I did and it wound down along the coast dotted with beautiful homes with fantastic views. There were parts through the forest and it just seemed to swallow the car the trees were so huge.
I came upon Deception Pass and found a spot to park and got a few pictures and really enjoyed just watching the current go under the bridge. Yes, the water color is really that blue. This is a narrow pass between 2 islands and the current is very strong. I had a boater tell me that at certain times your boat will just stay in place because of the whirlpools. I don't think I'd want to
play with that current.
I drove down the road a little further and found a vegetable stand, bought a few things then headed home. Oscar was happy about that, his eyes were beginning to close and it was his dinner time.
Once home, I got a drink, my chair, camera and binoculars and headed up the hill to a beach overlook. I sat there in the sun for 1 1/2 hours watching the tide roll in. It was a little warm but I so enjoyed watching nature, I really needed that. At the end of my stay I was rewarded by a seal swim by. I did get a few shots of him between dives for dinner.
Came back home and made a spaghetti dinner with an ear of fresh corn and some cherry tomatoes that were really good.
It turned out to be a wonderful day.
