Austin
The Texas State Capitol building in the heart of Austin We got up this morning and a few of us made our way by bus to the centre of Austin to have a look around. We thought it would take longer to get into the city so we actually missed our stop and ended up at the Austin University. We wondered around, totally out of place until we found a bus that took us into the city. We got off near an old political building which was very impressive, we had a brief look around inside and when we came out on the other side we continued through the park and into the city centre. We walked down the street looking for any op-shops so we could buy a used suit for our mystery night in Las Vegas that Jon was planning. But it was so difficult to find anything even remotely wearable on a fancy night out. Around lunch time Hannah got a lift into town and met us for lunch at a small café, close to where we were looking for suits. Dave, Ben and I ate lunch with Hannah while Lucy, Min and Sara continued on looking for clothes.
After lunch we tried looking for a bus

Looking down through the park at the Texas State Capitol building that took us back to the hostel but just couldn’t find one. Instead we walked it, which took a while but there didn’t seem to be much else to Austin we wanted to see. When we arrived back at the hostel Dave, Ben and I went looking for a golf course which was supposed to be right next to the hostel. But we had no idea where it was, we walked around for ages searching, even asked some people who worked nearby no one knew. The heat was starting to get to us and I got sick of looking and convinced Dave and Ben to head back to the hostel. For the rest of the afternoon we hung around the hostel, doing laundry or using the internet while we had the chance. We were sick of Jon’s strange recommendations for dinner and asked his friend where was good. She suggested a Mexican place in town which was supposed to be good and it was close to where we were meeting Jon to go watch his mate in a local comedy performance.
So we got ready, ordered a taxi and Dave, Ben, Hannah and I went to have Mexican for

On the steps of the Texas State Capitol facing Austin dinner, no one else wanted to come. Unlucky for them because it was easily the best food we’d eaten all tour, it was delicious and came with unlimited corn chips. After dinner we made our way to the comedy club around the corner where we were meeting the rest of our group and some of the guys from the other trek group. We were meeting at 9PM and arrived just before then to see everyone waiting, but Jon wasn’t here yet. We sat around drinking as the comedy show began to start, there was still no sign of Jon. Hannah and I played pool in the back and also tried a game involving a table with sand on it. The comedy was terrible, we tried to tolerate it but it was really bad and we were all very annoyed that Jon never met us tonight. Hannah and I eventually took a taxi back to the hostel early and soon after everyone did the same.
