Austin
Stevie Ray Vaughn Memorial We woke today around 8:30AM which was quite early considering we only had a short drive today and were hoping for a sleep in. We were staying at a hostel for the next couple of days which was run by a friend of Jon’s. The deal was that instead of camping somewhere in Austin we could stay at this hostel for a very cheap price, as long as we did a favor for Jon’s friend. A bunch of school kids were coming to the hostel today to learn more about other countries, and since our group consisted of people from all over the world she asked us if we could sit down and have a chat with them, tell them about ourselves and where we come from. We arrived at the hostel around lunchtime, Jon went to get us some lunch and soon enough we sat there eating pizza and drinking iced-tea while chatting to the kids. There were three groups who we spoke to, each for around 15 minutes. Though for the first group no one could get a word in because Tina wouldn’t stop talking about how amazing Bristol is, we tried to talk about somewhere other than Bristol

Our group with Jon's family out for dinner but by that time the groups changed around.
After speaking to all three groups some of us headed down into Austin to get some ice-cream. We hung around eating ice-cream for a while then went to have a look in a music store. Jon met up with one of his other mates and we sat in the pub having a few drinks while chatting to Jon’s friend. Afterwards we headed back to the hostel and hung around there for the rest of the afternoon. This evening we were meeting Jon’s family and having dinner at a local Texan BBQ restaurant, we got ready and headed out to dinner. When we got there it wasn’t the typical restaurant that we’d expected. We lined up and ordered from a small stand then grabbed any drink we wanted and soon enough our dinner was ready and we paid as we went to find a seat. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten of a compartmentalised plate in a restaurant before, with plastic cutlery, but the food was delicious, it was really good. We met all of Jon’s family and had a few drinks with them while we sat around chatting.

Group out at dinner we all had a group photo and said our goodbyes then headed out to the bars in Austin. Since it was Jon’s hometown we were expecting him to take us to some great bars and pubs. We walked to one of the main night life areas and saw a few bars which were heaving. But when we finally arrived to the bar Jon had in mind there was hardly anyone here, we had a few drinks then decided to move on. Jon took us to another bar but again, there was no one here. A lot of us considered walking back to where we saw that all the bars were full but Jon insisted the next bar would be busy. We finally got to this pub Jon had stressed was busy and guess what, we were the only people in the bar. From somewhere on the way Jon had bought a guitar off someone in the street, so we sat drinking and playing guitar in this empty bar until most of us had had enough. We headed for the next bar but Hannah and I were getting fed up of trying to find a decent bar, we took a taxi bar to the hostel and eventually went to sleep. It wasn’t long before everyone else returned after us, we assume the bar they left was quiet too.
