Luke Bryan
At the Capitol Records Street Party 10-12-10
Sad today...have to begin our trek west...excited about that, but will miss Nate entirely too much!! We left Charlotte when Nate went to work, so made it to Knoxville, TN to our friendly Walmart to spend the night. There were a couple of other rigs in the parking lot, so we had a regular campout!! There were storms in the area...rained on us through the Smokey Mountains, and a couple of pretty good showers while we were winding down for the evening.

Arrived in Nashville in the early afternoon. We called the Nashville Country RV Park to see if we could spend the night. They had room, so settled in the rig and headed downtown. Our intention was to go to the Capitol Records Street Party and then make our way to the Bluebird Cafe. We got to the street party (on Music Row) early and went into the Tin Roof Cafe for a beer while we waited for the show to begin. The stage was set up right outside their patio!! We met a gentleman who was from Charlotte and was in Nashville on business. His father had lived in the Pullman area growing lentils at some point,
Darius Rucker
Capitol Street Party but sounded like the family had been in and around Charlotte for 4 generations! Too funny...you just never know who you’re going to meet!! The street party got going with a couple of kids I’d never heard of before, but then Luke Bryan took the stage and we really enjoyed him! We had eaten dinner at an Irish Pub up the street a bit, and apparently it didn’t agree with me, because just as Darius Rucker took the stage I started feeling really terrible. We lasted about 2 songs in and I had to go home...bummer!!

I didn’t sleep very well during the night, but felt pretty good this morning. We had called the Moose Lodge and moved the coach over to their back parking lot and headed back downtown. We went right to the Country Music Hall of Fame and spent most of our day there. They have a bus that runs over to Music Row to tour RCA’s Studio B, where Elvis cut over half of his records. It was all very interesting and I think G had a ball learning even more stories about the stars!! We walked over to the Ryman Auditorium, but didn’t end
Studio B
In the RCA building on Music Row up going in...we were starving and were “toured out” by that time!! Went into one of the honky tonks to get ome “lunch” at about 4pm!! Walked into Tootsie’s Famous Orchid Lounge to listen to some live music, but the band wasn’t fabulous, so tried another honky tonk bar band and decided if we were going to get out to the Bluebird Cafe, we’d better hit the road!!
I’ve been hearing about the Bluebird Cafe for years, and was truly surprised that it’s a little cafe (emphasis on little!!) in the middle of a strip mall in a suburban community in Nashville!! We hadn’t made reservations, and G was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to see the show, but they had a couple of seats left. Then shortly after the show began, there was a table that had “no-shows”, so we were offered that. Sat there for 2 hours listening to 4 singer-songwriters participate in an “in-the-round” show. They were set up right in the middle of the cafe, which was packed and did I mention really little?!?!? It was fabulous...turns out that one of them was Alex Call who wrote: “Jenny, I Got Your Number (867-5309)” and a
couple of Huey Louis hits!! They were all really good and it was totally fun, so at the end of the show we asked if there were seats for the 9pm show and there were, so we went outside, waited 30 minutes and joined the second audience. We shared a table with a young couple from Belgium!! He is a concert promoter there and they’ve been in the states 2 weeks, with another to go before they have to return home. They had been to New Orleans as well, and turns out that he booked Gal Holliday for next summer when they are going to be in Europe!! (Gal Holliday was the band we listened to at the Circle Bar in NO and had enjoyed so much G purchased their CD online the next day...) Again...you just never know who you’re going to meet on the road!! We had a nice visit with them, then enjoyed the show. We enjoyed it, but were surprised that we hadn’t heard many of the songs they were playing...seemed like the first group were more well-known, but we had to pay cover for the second show...totally enjoyed it, tho’, so didn’t really matter!!

At the Country Music Hall of Fame Got up this morning and G fired up the computer...turns out that one of the guys at the late show last night was Jack Sundrun, formerly of the band Poco!! And he had written quite a few hits over the years. It was pretty funny to read his bio...the whole time I was listening to this unassuming guy from Minnesota, and turns out he was this long-haried hippy rocker in the 70s!! Buttoned up things and hit the road to meet my Cousin Doyle in Caruthersville, MO. He and his wife, Treena, live in Summersville, MO, where I had visited them last summer with my folks and sister. Didn’t take that long to get up to the Lady Luck Casino right on the Mississippi River in Caruthersille. Got a call from Doyle that they were 5 minutes out...good timing!! So we sat in the coach and had a nice visit until about 6. Went downtown to Twister’s to get some BBQ for dinner. Then we went into the casino to see what was going on. Glenn played cards, Treena took on the slot machines and Doyle and I stood around and visited...best casino time I’ve had yet!! Treena won a

Hall of Fame Induction little, G lost a little and we called it a night!! Doyle & Treena headed for home and we turned in for the night.
