Hello there. It is before 10 am in Nashville, TN. I probably won’t publish this until later because the Internet signal is really shoddy here. So yesterday was a full day. I woke up in Charleston, WV and spent my morning downtown. The weather wasn’t agreeing (mid thirties and rainy, Brandon). The town was slow to wake up so I wasted away the first hour hanging out in the library before ... Read Full Entry

All of these bars have the bright lights, the big cowboy bouncers, beautiful southern women, live country music all night and lots of people moving in and out... that is what night life in Nashville is all about

People!!! Finally!People!!! Finally!
People!!! Finally!

I met Sarah, the one in the middle, while I was sitting at the bar and she invited me over to meet her friends. She is from Sweeden, spending a year in the US because she rides horses professionally. I don't remember the name of the guy next to her (Steve??) wasn't the friendliest. The guy in the back is Shaun.... Shaun is 5th generation Nashvillian. After 5 minutes, he told me I wasn't getting a hotel tonight, I was staying on his farm! He said we was going to show me what Southern Hospitality was all about!!! (Deliverance?) All kidding, he really was a very nice guy and had a sharp wit and intellect, but better judgment prevailed and I skipped out to find a motel.

My BUD Eli and his bud Syd

Eli is all time! I met him when I first came in... the bartenders were nursing him off his drink with cups of water.... at 9 o'clock!!! This picture doesn't do it justice... Eli is a self-proclaimed rocking drifter who plays a "mean harmonica" and used to "hook em real hard" when he was a younger man. His southern accent is garbled by years of hard livin.... he was a life-long brick worker... this guy loves his booze and loves his country music. It was not abnormal for him to break out of silence every once and a while with a "I LOVE THAT GUY!" (the singer on stage) or (my favorite b/c I have no idea what it means) grabbing my arm really hard and screaming "That's the final reality!!!". His bud is Syd, who is originally from Maine but has lived in Nashville for 13 years. These guys are out on the town every night! Eli has a folklore it appears. Again, it was not abnormal for Eli to sneak behind the bar when a friend walked in or a pretty woman. The bartenders would slap him on his head and he would return to his bar stool... classic Eli

Nashville
I think a little tear fell when I saw the pics of Nashville. I love and miss Nashville! It is such a great city. Oh that other little bar spot you have a picture of is Tootsies. It is one of the oldest and most famous bars in Nashville. I'm chuckle when I read your blog about Eli. That is the other great thing about Nashville...everyone has a story.

History
Hey man, keep the history lessons coming. I feel like I am watching an episode of Globe Trekker (love that show) or something. Definitely miss you back home, but so happy that you are doing this. Hope you are getting inspired by everything you see and do. Shaun P.S. I think the peaks and valleys are necessary. They give us all a different perspective on our life...helping us to hopefully make wiser decision.

My take aways from this post:
1. Charleston is a poor man's Woodbridge. 2. You need a GPS device. Seriously. 3. We need Jolly Pirate Donuts up north. Do they franchise? 4. You may be a Scientologist now. Tom Cruise may show up in the back of you car. Give him all the cash in your pockets. 5. The Predators have fans? Like, more than 1? 6. Keep the posts coming, this is shaping up to be quite a fun trip. Godspeed Matt Paz!

Don't worry........human contact is coming and will reach you in New Orleans. Don't fall into those valleys in the meantime, but try to stay on top of the peaks. Miss you lots. xxoo MOM
