Libre al fin!!

Hemos cruzado la primera frontera, y no fue fácil. Dejamos atrás Carolina del Norte, o North Cackalacky como le dicen los locales. Muchas veces, aunque extranjero, me sentí local en Cackalacky, pero así es la vida, es cruzar fronteras para crecer. Estamos en Carolina del Sur, donde mi suegro Cap y Teresa la madrastra de Fern. La casa de Cap y Teresa es siempre una maravilla de admirara, la construyó el, con sus manos, su diseño, con amigos y familia, de la misma manera que lo queremos hacer nosotros. Como es en esta zona con 4 estaciones, la casa es solar pasiva y rodeada de bosque. En esta semana le vamos a meter hongos Shitake y Pollo del Arbol, dos excelentes hongos comestibles gourmet y que ya teníamos el micelio (similar a las raíces en el hongo) para inocular (similar a sembrar) el hongo en troncos de madera. También tenemos esta semana que finiquitar detalles, y si es posible disminuir el peso de los maletos, están pesados (aproximadamente 45lbs ó 20.5kg). El peso realmente no está tan espantoso si tomamos en cuenta que realmente no vamos a hacer caminatas con el maletín, pero sigue estando pesado. Ayer también entregamos el Dragón Blanco (nuestro pickup), y con él nuestras últimas llaves, Wow! Que sentimiento…Fern me dijo que nuestro amigo Geoff le dijo un día algo que me encanto y decidí que tenía que ser el titulo de este día…La libertad se mide por cuantas llaves se posee…¡ha! ¡0 llaves! ¡Libre al fin!

Free at last!!

We have crossed our first border, and it wasn’t easy. We left North Carolina, or North Cackalacky as the locals call it. Many times, even as a foreigner, I felt like a local in Cackalacky, but that’s life, crozing the borders to grow. We are now in South Carolina, at my in laws Cap and Theresa (fern’s stepmom). Their house is always a wonder to admire; he built it with his own hands, his design, with friends and family, the same way we want to do ours. Because it is in this area, it is passive solar and surrounded by forest. This week we’ll inoculate (similar to planting) Shiitake and Chicken of the Woods mushrooms, two excellent gourmet edible mushrooms which we already had mycelia for (mycelia is like roots but in fungi) inoculating in logs and stumps. We also have to finish details, and if possible downsize a little to diminish backpacks weights, they’re heavy (approximately 45lbs or 20.5kg). The weight is not really horrible if we take in account that we aren’t really hiking with the backpacks, but they are still heavy. Yesterday we delivered the White Dragon (our old pickup truck), with it went the last of our keys, Wow! What a feeling…Fern told me that our friend Geoff told her one day…Freedom is measured by the amount of keys you own…ha! 0 keys! Free at last!
