Today we woke up to 3-4 inches of snow. It snowed most of the morning. Jessica and Tanner needed to get caught up on school work so we decided to make it a stay home day. Boy they worked hard most of the day, so we decided to reward them by dropping them off at the game room in the clubhouse to play while Lilly and Emma had a nap. They played there for 2 hours and seemed to have fun. After they got home we decided to rent some movies and have pizza. The kids enjoyed the movie Lassie, while Ty and I watched an adult movie called Little Miss Sunshine. We had a nice family day.

Again we woke up to more snow and it was still snowing. From all the New Englanders that we have talked to, they have had a very dry, but cold winter, so this snow made everyone a little disgruntled. We loved it! We have been missing much of the snow at home and were happy to see it here.

SNOWMAN BODY. We had breakfast, did some school work, got dressed and all headed to the cluhouse where all 4 kids would play while Ty and I got in a quick work out. Afterwards, we built a very cool snowman on the golf course and walked down the pier of the clubhouse. Nargansett Bay was crisp and beautiful on this winter morning. The sun was shining and it was turning out to be a beautiful day. Back at the house, Jessica and Tanner made us all a gourmet lunch of cheesy mac n cheese, sliced apples and a yummy tasting drink of orange juice, splash of diet coke, and apple juice. They are destined to run a restaurant someday. They spent a couple hours on school work while Lilly and Emma napped. Ty went solo to return the movies, only to bring home more movies and Chinese food for Tanner. The kids watched High School Musical, while we watched a movie that won the Academy Award for best picture called the Departed, great, but not a movie for kids.

SNOWMAN HEAD. feeling a little cabin fever so we made plans to be out all day. We started with the usual workout, got ready and headed into town, where the kids would be painting some pottery at the Clayroom. Jessica picked out an ice cream cone, Tanner picked a fat fish, Emma picked a puppy, and Lilly picked a ducky. They all painted their pieces, gave them to a lady named Amy, where she would fire them in the kiln and we would pick them up on Sunday. We had a quick lunch at a pizza place next to the pottery store. Today we would go toward the beaches and tour one on the many mansions here in Newport. On our drive to the mansions, Emma said to Lilly "We are going to look at a mansion. I have never seen a mansion and neither have you Lilly." It was cute and made Ty and I giggle.
There are many mansions that have been donated to the Newport preservation society through the years, but only one of them was open today. The grand daddy of all the mansions, The Breakers, was the one we toured. This mansion was built for the

SMOOTHING OUT THE SNOWMAN. Vanderbilts in the 1895. It is 138,000 square feet on 13 acres right on the atlantic ocean. Yes, that square footage is right! The Vanderbilt's had a much smaller cottage (60,000 sq ft ) that they adored, but it caught on fire and burned to the ground, so they decided to build another more magnificient home to replace it. This was a summer cottage for the Vanderbilts that they only used for 2-3 months out of the year. Their permanent home was in New York City. From start to finish it took only 19 months to complete the house. WOW what a mansion it was and still is. We probably only saw half of it. Most rooms were roped off and we just looked in them. Every room was magnificient from floor to ceiling. From the fancy detailed woodwork, to the marble and stone walls and fireplaces, to all the many beautiful paintings on the walls, to the hand painted ceilings, to the magnificient pieces of furniture, to the grand chandliers in every room, every part of this mansion was gorgeous, inside and out. The Vanderbilts had 7 children and it was hard for us to imagine them running around

DRESSING THE SNOWMAN. this fancy house, but they did for years. There were 2 dining rooms, one for the kids and one for the adults. You can only imagine what the adults dining room looked like, well the kids was equally as nice. The Vanderbilt's had 40 people who worked for them and lived on the top floor of the house. They did not like to call the people who worked for them servants, so they were referred to as the staff. 20 staff worked inside the house and the other 20 worked on maintaining the outside grounds. All their meals were prepared and served by the kitchen staff, the house was cleaned and maintained by the cleaning staff, now that is the life. We were glad to tour this fabulous mansion, if we ever come back we want to tour some of the other mansions.

Hey Jess, I have actually been to the Breakers. When I visited (a LONG time ago), one of the original owner's daughters still lived upstairs. We were not allowed to walk through the upper level. We are finally getting some nice weather here. Hopefully we will be without snow for the first time in 78 days!! We are excited. See you soon.
