Travelling to Bend along the Scenic Byways

We collected our moho on Friday and headed east towards Bend where we stayed for 3 days.
We had a "quick" stop at Walmart which took 1 hrs and 20 minutes for groceries.
After 90 miles of driving we stopped at Detroit Lake State forest recreation area at 5pm.
Joni and Jim the camp hosts were great and gave us a spot right next to the lake. The Lake is a dammed river which they use for recreational purposes during the summer. About now they start to open the dam intime for winter rain to fill it up.
Oregon don't do ordinary roads they have scenic Byways and our journey took us through two.
They do what they say on the tin supply stunning scenery.
We travelled along Cascades scenic byway through McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass scenic byway to Bend.
This area is volcanic the mountains are volcanoes areas of vast lava fields are not what you expect to see.

For miles the landscape changed from lush green pine forests, to areas of utter devastation from recent fires. Then without warning the forest stops and a lava field as far as you can see appears.
We drove up McKenzie pass to a height of 5325 feet almost a mile high it was cold.
Stopped at Scott Lake for lunch and Dee observatory made in 1935 out of lava with amazing views of Mount Washington.
Headed down to Bend through Sisters to find a place to camp for a couple of nights.
