Well to say it's a busy city is an understatement, to say it's an expensive city, well that would be o so true. We stayed with two different hosts in New York both lovely and very friendly people. We enjoyed a chicken wrap, burger and fries with Elizabeth at this up class cafe near 207th and we enjoyed a thai curry with Fabian near 78th (kerry says the thai curry kicked v-fest spring rolls ass).We had icecream twice in New York ( I don't know why we always seem to tell you what we've been eating in the posts but I'll continue anyways ...) The first was coldstone which we had been recommended by the German's who we met at Niagara who had just been there. You pick your icecream, toppings, sauce and then the lady mixed it altogether and put it all in a very large waffer (see the pics) so that was cool to watch. Then we went to handles, wow, you go in and do it all yourself, pick your cup size, pick your soft serve icecream and pull it yourself, put on your toppings and then you pay by weight. Icecream from coldstone almost $9, Frozen Yogurt
from Handles (soft Icecream) under $5, bargain. We did think that after seeing prices for food that we would go to the store and just buy things to make sandwiches with, so that we didn't have to pay prices, we soon realised this isn't cheaper! Loaf of bread $3, cheese $3, butter $2.50, it hurts to type this.
Well back to the stuff you wanna hear about... we visited all major tourist places while hear. The New York city pass for 1 day cost $80 each but it got you entry to over 70 different attractions so with careful planning the night before to fit in as many free things as possible on the day we had the pass, we really got our money's worth. We hit Madame Tussauds $40, Liberty Island $15, American Museum of Natural History $22, New York Sky ride $20, Empire state building $22 and top of the rockefeller $22, total saving for 2 = $122 which comes to about £97.
Madame Tussauds was pretty good, we didn't have any celebrity sightings so we got our pictures taken with wax instead. The natural History Museum is massive so we didn't get to see much of it
(dino's mainly) but you could of easily spent the day here, BE WARNED CHILDREN EVERYWHERE !!!!! The New York sky ride is on the 2nd floor of the Empire state building and confused the hell out of us both. We couldn't understand how they can charge so much money for something....so.......bloody........crap! Is the best way to put it, Please do not waste your time or money. The Empire states building well it was missing a gorilla at the top to start with, but when you got through the que for a ticket and then a que for security and then a que for the audio tour which you had to wait in even if you didn't want the audio tour, a que for the first lift to 90th floor, then you could que again for the lift to the 96th floor or you could walk up 6 sets of stairs. When you did make it to the top, you couldn't move as it was full of people up there, who had qued. Nobody would move, you couldn't get a good photo, people pushed you, not a good experience at all and a big dissappointment. Then we went to the top
of the rocks (Rockefeller, where they have the big christmas tree) you still had to que, but they were organised, you got a really cool light show in the lift and there wern't half as many people up there, and an added bonus was that we got to see the Empire state building lit up at night. So advice, visit the Rockefeller and enjoy it more.
