I've been updating the blog from a "lovely" little town called Winnemucca where we are spending the night. After 9 hours of driving through places like the great salt desert and the boonies of Nevada we thought it best to spend the night here since the only hotel listed in our AAA tour book for Lakeview had no available rooms and taking a chance of getting into Oregon and having to drive another 100 miles or so to find a room was not prudent. When we stopped at the visitor center in Elko Nevada the woman told Sylvan that she had never been out this way but after Winnemucca there was really no other places to stay. I thought it strange she had never been out this way but now I know why. She isn't missing a thing. We thought Kansas was boring. Route 80 West is NOT a scenic highway and even in a small town like this there must be 6 Casinos and most of the no-tell motels and hotels look like the've been here since the 60's. Oh well the room is clean and cheap even if the decor says 1970.
