Viva Las Vegas……
Vegas was crazy. Random and a bit plastic but awesome none the less. The bright lights and all the people everywhere 24hr’s a day is such an experience. Walking into a casino at four in the morning and seeing several hundred people milling around winning and losing money is such a unique spectacle…..obviously not for the people losing. Unlike anywhere I have ever been.
Journey into Las Vegas was so long and involved a stop-over at LA greyhound station which seemed to make it feel even longer, don’t like the changes you have to make everywhere….but you have to unfortunately. Anyhow-all was good and we arrived just north of the strip and got a taxi to Circus Circus.
Never seen a queue for a hotel check in that stretched the entire length of a lobby. Well, I have now. We thought the porter was joking when he pointed to the huge line of angry and tired people waiting patiently. Took us two and a half hours to check in, but we got a really big and clean room for 40 bucks a night…..and a view of the strip which was stunning at night. The hotel was
Looking south down the strip
The view from our hotel room, pretty good! right at the end of the strip (north end) and so getting to the other casino’s was a bit of a mission and the trolleys didn’t come that often so we walked most places.
We didn’t have too long in the dessert that they call Las Vegas so we sorted out a Grand Canyon trip pretty much as soon as we got there. On the first whole day we just walked down the strip which was pretty awesome. I knew the resorts were big but some are three or four blocks long, so big. We went all the way to New York New York and rode the rollercoaster which flies you 70mph past a mock up of Manhattan which is bizarre. We took in some other attractions and highlights included…..
The Venetian hotel and casino…………fantastic.
The water show outside the Bellagio was fantastic.
The new Wynn resort and casino is worth a trip, really plush and caters for the richer guests!
Sitting at a machine putting a dollar in and making it last at least an hour just to keep getting the cheap drinks that they bring you. Cheapskates.
Having a TV to watch
Me and my mate Cowell
Apparently....i was 'rubbish, the worst singer from Norwich, ever'. I thought my rendition of 'The Final Countdown' by Europe was ok. again….that sounds so sad but the playoffs were on and I’ve been watching quite a lot of basketball!! (think Miami won the other day-saw it in Fiji!)
There is a lot of tat in Vegas as well, the Treasure Island show is so not worth the hour wait some people did, we turned up half an hour early and left early as it was rubbish! The volcano outside the Mirage was ok, so elaborate…but that’s Vegas for you I suppose!
All in all, Las Vegas was a place which had to be visited and I’m pleased I have been, just to say I have seen it. Lost a bit of money, (not much mum I promise!) that was always gonna be inevitable though. The heat was tremendous also, high 90’s every day and it didn’t get much better in the evening which didn’t really help when we were walking a couple of miles up and down the strip every day. You can imagine how my poor underarms were feeling, wet. Anyway we also did the Grand Canyon and we did it in style!
We got a mini-bus to this tiny airport which had a reception/gift shop/check in
The Grand Canyon lunge
Unfortunately some lady in her cropped jean shorts got in the shot, annoying. desk which couldn’t have been that much bigger than my front room. We got to the helicopter place via this ten seater plane which was cool as I’ve never been in a plane so small. We had a great view of the Hoover Dam from the plane and……err…..the dessert which was very….reddish. The helicopter ride was awesome, never done that before and I’d love to do it again! We went to the West Rim of the canyon which we thought would be better as you can actually go inside the canyon and land at the bottom. We did all that, views were amazing as you can probably imagine and we weren’t disappointed with the package we chose. The good thing with what we did is that if you get a helicopter ride to the more touristy north and south rims you can’t go inside the Canyon whereas we did and we got a boat ride down the Colorado River as well! The other rims are more dramatic but we had a great time and met some native Indians as well, so it was well worth it.
Final night/early morning was spent losing money and drinking! Then it was onwards
to LA.
Sorry for being lame and late at posting these blogs, this is two in two days though…you lucky people!! Auckland is wet and cold so I hope your all enjoying the sun, if its sunny where you are obviously! Also my flash is rubbish on my camera and I haven’t worked out the different settings yet so not many of my Vegas night shots came out well, sorry about that! Think Fran had a few good ones.
Hope you are all well and looking after yourselves. Congratulations to Greg and Sarah for sorting out a house, I will be round next year……also to my bro and sis for finishing their exams and getting the results they deserve and that I know they will get……..and hopefully England for beating the mighty Ecuador!! I know I’m missing birthdays as well (Howsey, sorry dude!!) so sorry if I forget to send a mail but I’m with you in spirit, think of me as a flame haired ghost drinking cider and black and talking crap at the back of the room, and maybe just maybe pulling out a lady impression (Geo and Tim-appreciate).
Anyway, I’m talking poo so I better
Lots of bums
The one on the end is cute. go and stand in the rain of Auckland which is great fun.
Peace out and take care.
