The Luxor
The view of our hotel. We stayed in a room behind the Sphinx. It was the afternoon when we arrived in Las Vegas, while we had the car we decided to take a drive down Sunset Strip. There was plenty of lights to see, as well as the people and the different themed hotels. We were certainly far from home.
Upon arriving at our hotel, the Luxor and we were greeted by a porter, he took care of our bags and valet parked our car (for free too, not like Melbourne hotels.)
The hotel is huge. It is the third largest in Vegas with 4,400 rooms and has an Egyptian theme. The tower we stayed in, which has a gaming area, bars, buffet restaurants was actually the shape of a giant pyramid. It was very over whelming. We checked into our room and enjoyed the view as it overlooked the Sphinx. That afternoon we spent exploring not only our hotel but our neighbours Excalibur and Mandalay Bay. And enjoyed a frozen daiquiri in a lovely yard glass.
The next day we spent exploring the different hotels along the strip, but not without a buffet breakfast to keep us going all day and into the night. Word on the street was The
The View from Our Room
The airport is just to the right of this photo. Luxor had the best value buffet in all of Vegas. Well, lets just say we were very full for the whole day and didn’t eat dinner until 7pm.
The hotel tour of Vegas started with a visit to the Stratosphere, it has a 1149 feet tower which has an observation deck and roller coaster on top!! The next hotel we pasted was Sahara, which was very dated but very cool. Then we headed into Circus Circus, we watched circus acts and went into their carnival area. We went on a ride “Canyon Blaster” - it was an indoor double loop the loop, double corkscrew roller coaster. It was mad. We didn’t expect it to be so good. We continued along the strip and went into Treasure Island and The Mirage Hotel, where we saw white tigers and a salt water aquarium in the lobby.
Next hotel down the strip was the biggest hotel in Vegas, the Venetian with 6,600 rooms. It is themed as the city of Venice, with St. Marco’s square, the Rialto Bridge and you could even ride a gondola at the front of the hotel. We passed Caesars Palace and it took a little while;

We didn't win any money though. it just seemed to keep going, block after block! The hotel had been around since 1966 and they were still adding to its size. One of the best hotels we saw was the Flamingo Hotel. They had pink flamingos along with other birds in their lobby.
After that we headed to Paris (only in Vegas)! The hotel even had an Eiffel Tower out the front. After a long day of hotel hopping we visited one last hotel, MGM Grand, it has more than 5,000 rooms, and it very impressive and even has a lion habitat in the lobby. Right next door to our hotel was New York New York, and was a sister property to the Luxor. It re-creatures the Manhattan Skyline in Vegas, including Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and the Chrysler building.
After all of that we were both beat and we had certainly walked out legs off. Since we had seen the light pollution of Vegas from Death Valley we forced ourselves to head back out there, after an afternoon nap of course, to check out the Strip at night.
We ended our visit to Las Vegas like many who have started their visit;
The Las Veas Sign
Our last stop before heading to Arizona. with a photo with the Las Vegas Sign - it has been there since 1959 and is the most famous landmark in Vegas.
Since we only have five days left with the car we hightailed it to Arizona to explore another state of the the USA. We hope to hit the 10,000 mile mark with a bit of luck and driving. Off we went bound for Tucson Arizona for our second last National Park of the trip.
Hope you all well and we will see you very shortly.
Love Michelle and Stephen.
