Way Too Hot For Me !!
We came through the Mojave Desert to get to Vegas ! It was 115 degrees !! Good Morning !! Well it was our last day in California but we were off to see what Las Vegas had to offer. Tim and I packed up five days worth of stuff while we let the girls sleep in one last time. You see, Kayla & Emily are going to be getting on a plane tomorrow headed back home. Emily's Mother called last week and said that they needed to get over to Ohio to visit Emily's sister sometime this Summer and they really wanted to do it over the 4th of July. So we all decided that we would fly Emily home to her parents and instead of Kayla being stuck alone with Tim and I the rest of the trip, we would send her to her Grandmother's and her Dad's for the rest of the trip. Today would be their last full day with us and it was kinda sad, well it was for me anyway. I think Tim and the girls were secretly a little happy !! Although they were having a good time, the girls really missed their friends and family and Tim had been traveling across America with three females, two of which were 15
Welcome to Calico !
Our Daddies would have really enjoyed this old ghost town ! year old teenagers ! We had left all the suitcases at home, so at some point, we were going to have to stop somewhere and buy the girls some bags for their trip home. We headed out of California and before we knew it we were seeing a lot of dry land and some really big cacti. Tim informed me that we were traveling through the Mojave Desert. We tuned into the local radio station only to find out that it was 115 degrees in the desert !! We continued on and we kept seeing all these signs about this ghost town nearby, so we decided we would stop and check it out. As we got closer, I tried to get the girls up so they could see it but Kayla wasn't having any part of it. We arrived at Calico Ghost Town, A San Bernardino County Regional Park, and Tim, Emily and I jumped out of the RV and headed up the hill. About twenty steps later, the three of us realize that it was really really really HOT !!! We had already paid to get in so we decided to brave the heat and move along into town.
Calico Ghost Town
This place was really neat to see ! I'm glad we did because it was a really neat place to see. It reminded me a lot of my Daddy and Tim's Daddy because they both love the "Old West" type of movies and music and stuff. We just walked around, in and out of the old stores, and we stopped for pizza and hot dogs at the Saloon. Tim danced to the man playing the old piano and then rocked a little in an old rocking chair while Emily and I goofed around. We passed a thermometer hanging on an old wooden post and it said that it was 107 degrees but Tim was quick to point out that the thermometer was hanging in the shade. Tim has also decided that bears do not exist in the wild anymore and has started a wild manhunt for a Diamond Back Rattlesnake in the desert. We braved the heat as long as we could and then we were off towards Sin City !! We eventually crossed over the Nevada state line and stopped for a couple of pictures as we had for many of the other states (no rattlers here either). This could only mean one thing, we were getting
Me & Punkin in Calico !
It was 107 degrees here at 1:07 in the afternoon in the SHADE! a lot closer to Las Vegas and Tim was getting a lot more excited !! As we are approaching Vegas we spot a Wal-Mart and so we stopped and went in to find the girls some luggage. As we are walking through this huge store we realize that there's nothing but groceries everywhere. I ask a clerk where we could find some suit cases or travel bags and he said about 5 miles down the road at the other Wal-Mart. This particular store was just a massive Wal-Mart Grocery Center and it was very nice I might add. So we hop in the motor home and head down the road where we successfully find bags for the girls at the Wal-Mart Super Center. About twenty minutes later we arrived at our destination, Harrah's Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada !! I checked us in and off we were up to the 4th floor to settle into room 454. Of course it was the absolute last room all the way at the end of the hall on the right but it really didn't matter once we opened the door. AHHHHHHHHHHH, it was glorious, just like heaven !!! Emily headed straight
Emmy & Tim !
Don't they make a cute couple ??? for the thermostat, Kayla headed straight for the computer and Tim landed on the first bed in sight. It only took a minute for the girls to spot the mini-bar, the room service menu and the remote control !!! After 23 days in a motor home, this modest hotel room seemed like a luxury suite at the Hilton to them. I had to remind them not to get to comfortable because this was their only day in Vegas and we needed to get going if they wanted to see anything. Tim wasn't feeling well so we all just took about an hour to re-vamp and then we hit the streets. We strolled up and down the main strip, in and out of stores, shopping and taking in all the sights. About an hour later, Tim still wasn't feeling any better so he headed back to the room where he stayed until the next morning. Can you believe he spent the night in a casino and didn't even gamble a bit ?? You know he was really sick !!! The girls and I shopped a little more and then headed back to settle in for the night. Well, I didn't exactly
Old Store in Calico
I just love these old stores !! settle in because the girls rented the movie 27 Dresses, which I had already seen, and Tim was sick and trying to sleep, so I put my shoes back on and headed downstairs. Now this is a first for Tim and I, I have never ever started gambling before him. Normally, he's already in the casino while I'm still checking us in and then I have to hunt him down later to give him his room key and let him know what room we're in. I'm not sure if it really counted anyway because I was only down there about 20 minutes before I lost $50.00 and decided I'd better go back to the room. By the time I made it back to the room Emily and Tim were fast asleep so I stayed up with Kayla and finished the movie. Tomorrow I would be faced with putting my baby on a four hour plane flight back to Atlanta. She has never been on a plane before and I was very nervous. I quietly said my prayers and drifted off to sleep.
