New York, New York Hotel and Casino
Today we got to sleep in which was an extremely rare occasion during trek. Hannah and I spend most of the morning in the Jacuzzi while watching the news about the terrible fires in California. We headed down to get some breakfast in Starbucks soon after and as we returned to our room we bumped into Dave who stayed out in the casino most of the night, he was up thousands of dollars. We got our stuff ready and walked down to the other hotel where we were meeting the rest of the group. We got sick of waiting for Dave and Sara and jumped in the van to leave but as we did we saw them just coming around the corner. We went to have lunch at the famous ‘Luxor” buffet. Hannah was full from breakfast but the rest of us sat down and filled our plates again and again from this delicious buffet. We finished up lunch and headed into the casino to play some more blackjack. Amy wasn’t allowed near the tables since she wasn’t yet 21 so her and Hannah left to have a look around elsewhere while Dave and I struggled to hold on to our

money. Shortly after we searched for the exit and left the Egyptian themed casino because Jon was taking us to a shooting range.

We arrived at a place called ‘The Gun Shop’ and went inside to see a huge display of all different types of guns. It took some time for us to choose which gun we would like to use. I choose an M-16 semi automatic rifle and a glock pistol, it was the ammo which was expensive you paid by how many magazines you wanted to fire. We also needed to choose a target which were printed on large sheets of paper. As they got our guns ready we headed through, they gave us earmuffs and we went inside the shooting range. My first gun was the pistol, he showed me how to hold it, load it and fire it. I aimed at my target in the distance and slowly pulled the trigger. A loud bang roared through the shooting range and gave us all a fright. The gun kicked back as the empty bullet shell was thrown out and hit the ground, this was awesome. It wasn’t long before all my bullets were used but I

did pretty well, even the guy supervising me was impressed. Next it was my M-16, the guy handed me this giant rifle which was quite heavy. I looked through the viewfinder and pointed the red laser at my target and fired. This gun was really powerful and it was only a single shot, the guy told me to hold down the trigger for rapid fire. I did but it was so hard to control the aim due to the massive kickback this gun had. Again though my bullets ran out rather quickly and I left the shooting range to wait for everyone else. I realised Hannah had left and was scared of firing the gun, she didn’t want a turn, we tried to convince her but she became quite upset, Brock took her turn.

Afterwards Jon dropped Dave, Hannah and I off at a casino called New York, New York which was a very impressive place. Dave and I went to play some blackjack while Hannah went to get some food, she was still a little shaken up. She soon joined us and we played on the table for a while before we returned to our hotel. The beautiful Venetian Hotel and Casino themed like Venice
both rooms for an extra night since we couldn’t goto San Diego then went to our rooms for a rest. We met back with the rest of the group and went to a Korean restaurant. Nearly everything here was seafood so I picked out a dish with vegetables but it was terrible. We finished up dinner and walked down the strip to check out a few more casinos. We passed ‘Treasure Island’ while they had a pirate show full of fireworks, dancing and special effects. We headed for the Venetian Casino which was an amazing place, themed as Venice. The casino was on the bottom floor which was massive then when we made our way to the next floor we found streets all themed in the style of Venice. Canals ran through the streets even had gondolas with people singing as they floated down through the casino, I mean Venice. The ceiling was painting in sky, that is had clouds and blue sky, it was night outside but standing here you’d have no idea. We bumped into people from the other trek group and again spent quite a while gambling away.

Eventually Hannah, Rosie and I left to explore

some other casinos. As we walked down the strip I ran in and out of casinos changing money just to get a $5 chip from as many casinos as I could. Eventually we ended up in Paris casino and stayed playing some blackjack and poker machines, however all three of us lost money and it began to get frustrating. I got my souvenir $5 chip and then we continued walking down the strip chatting. Soon enough we decided to head back to our hotels, we shared a taxi back to The Signature, gave Rosie some cash to get to her place. It was around 3AM by the time we got back to our room. Once again Dave was still out gambling but we went straight to sleep.
