View from our room at the Drury Inn.
St. Louis-Home to the 2006 World Series Champion Cardinals. You can arrive in town at 4:30 call and get tickets for that night's game. $59.00 each gets you really good seats behind 3rd base. Too bad they lost to San Diego. We walked to the park from our hotel, the Drury Plaza. If you're ever in the area this is great value. Happy hour is 5:30 to 7:30, three free drinks each and munchies. Every morning they serve a full free breakfast and this is definitely one of their nicest hotels. Our room as requested had a view of the gateway arch. The weather remains blistering HOT! At game time it must have been 98. Wednesday morning we walked across the street to the famous gateway arch. Until this trip I never realized you can actually ride to the top. You may have read a couple of weeks ago how the elevators got stuck for several hours (that side is closed for repairs.) These "elevators" are actually eight separate containers, kind of like and "egg" with five seats. You have to bend over to enter and then you sit knees to knees hoping no one had beans for supper. I

cannot imagine being stuck in one of there for any length of time. The ride is 4 minutes up and 3 minutes down. You can stand in the fairly large observation area and get the most fantastic and dizzying views. A few minutes was all I needed with bridges collapsing etc. I just wanted down. The arch is actually part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and there's a huge underground welcome area where you get the elevators, gift shops, movie theaters, museum etc. The only other to-do on our list was a tour of the Budweiser Brewery but that will have to wait for another trip.
