Peter has brain freeze from his drink and has just gone and sat down and just started talking. To me travel and the memories of a place are heavily linked to the people I meet. Yes Peter and I did lots of different things but I remember the places in relation to the people I met.
On our first night away from Dalhart, we drove to Amarillo in a truck each which was a novel way to start a holiday. Had to drop Peter off at the Airport to pick up the rental car so I drove him there in a Mack Truck. Had to check that it fitted under the parapit first. Judging by the looks we got not many people get dropped at the Airport in a Mack Truck!
We then drove to Whitta Falls, threw our bags in the hotel room and went off to find a drink. We walked to a bar!! No one walks here, not even to the letter box!!! Found a bar, sat down and proceeded to get to know Ryan Dennis, an Executive Chef and Brady McAfee, a Golf Professional. That bar closed so they took us to another place and it was all down hill from there. Met 2 delightful women who were there playing 10 Pin bowls
on a game machine, Laura Mason, a Massage Therapist and Brittney Barron,a Senior Manager for an International Accounting Firm. Brittney is off to work in Brisbane with her firm so hopefully she can hook up with Nicole Oswell, a friend of Briars.
The following was a very slow start for both of us but like all self inflicted pain it passed.
We met other people who were a ball of fun at the bar and all were happy to be friends with me on facebook.
When we got to new Orleans we ended up in a garden type bar listening to really cool Jazz. Along came this couple who we befriended, Kim & Trey from Dallas. These two people are just a delight. We all got lost trying to find Bourbon Street after leaving the bar. Kim stepped up and took the lead much to the concern of her husband Trey. Trey was not happy that Kim lead us to Bourbon Street and that following him would have got us into lots of trouble. He finally conceeded that his sense of direction was temporarily out of kilta. The quote of the night was from Trey, "Honey, I

Steph has worked out that someone is taking her photo. want you to prepare yourself because in a wee short while I'm going to apologise to you and I don't want you to miss it".
We met up with Kim and Trey again a couple of days later where they tried to lead Peterand I astray by taking us to a gay bar where they had accidentaly visited the night before. We stuck pretty close to Kim at that point ( all 3 of us). I'm not used to a tanned muscled young man walking up to me with only his undies on and asking me if I was gay? When I said no he was most offended that we were in "his" Bar. We left.
Both Peter and I needed a hair cut so we thought it would be a good idea to to a black barber because these guys look immaculate when it come to haircuts. That is where we met and wonderful man called Preston Hunter. And could he cut hair. We also met a good friend of Preston's by the name of Lamarcus Smith who sat and watched these white fellas get their hair cut in a black barbers shop. He was most amused.
It turned out that Preston sings in the Choir for The Greater St Stephens Baptist Church in New Orleans. Guess what, I ticked the attendance to a Southern Baptist Church Service off my Bucket List that Sunday. The music was everything I expected and more while the sermon was amazing. It was about drawing distinctions between Babel and Babelon. Very powerful indeed.
On a Saturday morning we went to a Jazz Festival and Fair where we met Ebony Franklin and Stephanie Stephens, two cheerful women who were holidaying in New Orleans. I had previously said to Peter, ".. now Peter, if you see some interesting people who you think we should get a photo with, then let me know and then go and stand next to them and I will start clicking my camera without them knowing." So that is how we met the fine women. Peter had brain freeze from his drink so he went and sat between them uninvited and just started talking, as Peter does. Check out the photos and the looks on Ebony and Steph's faces as they twigged to the fact that I was photographing them as they were dealing with this total

Now they are in the flow and playing the game.
stranger in their midst.
Went on a dinner cruise on the Mississippi in a beautiful paddle steamer and met a mother and daughter team. Cecelia and Katie Burns. They were in town to attend a conference so while Cecelia's husband was engaged in meetings they went on this dinner cruise. I think our meeting was little rocky to start with but I thoroughly appreciated sitting down with them and having a serious conversation and sharing some time with them. We all relaxed after that and enjoyed each others company.
It's seldom that a beautiful woman walks straight up to me and starts talking. Abi Ferrin was her name, the owner of her own clothing label in Dallas. Actually the first thing I noticed was her stunning dress as she walked towards me. She asked me for a cigarette and I complimented her on her dress, then she tells me she is a clothing designer and she would love to break into Australasia. We spoke about that and exchanged some details about some leads to follow. No doubt some of you will want to look at her label so here it is, http://www.abiferrin.com
Enough now. As you can

I think peter has a couple of new friends imagine we meet heaps of other people but these are some of the highlights. Some of the stories are best left on tour, like the husband and wife who had brought a lady friend with them for a little fun. Enough said. Bye for now.
