I played Chauffer and Tour Guide the first week of April on the Island of Oahu as my parents and I enjoyed a week in paradise. We stayed in a lovely B&B in Kaneohe Bay overlooking the water. The view from the deck was spectacular and often my parents would look out over the water and see something large and round swimming around in the bay. We guessed it was probably a turtle; sea turtles are a... Read Full Entry

The Arizona has been underwater for nearly 69 years and in that time has become a living reef for marine life. Sea anemones, feather worms, bright red encrusting sponges and sea cucumbers cover the hull while sturgeonfish and Sargeant Major damselfish hover nearby. I imagine it is quite colorful underwater though only those on official business are allowed in the waters of Pearl Harbor.

The Leeward Coast Homeless

Some estimates indicate 4,000+ live along the 16 mile stretch of beach and beach parks known as the Leeward Coast. Most of these homeless are honest, hardworking people who simply cannot afford to live on the increasingly expensive island where the price of a single family home is several hundred thousand dollars.

Site of the Battle of Nu'uanu, where Kamehameha I fought for and won the right to rule the island of Oahu. It is said that more than 400 defending soldiers were driven off the cliff to their deaths, however, in 1845 during construction of the first road in the area, over 800 skulls were discovered.

Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe Bay!
I've been on that base before! I was there last year when I visited a friend who was in Hawaii briefly. I even got to go to the store where the Marine Corps items are sold and bought an olive green sweatshirt and sweatpants with USMC on them. :) I was so excited about it the lady behind the counter demanded to see military ID! LOL I also got a USMC shot glass with emblem on it to add to the tacky but growing shot glass collection I have. Glad you three are doing well...I miss you guys!
