03-01-17 and 03-02-17 The Beach
Wednesday after our walk and breakfast I decided to go to the grocery store but a little exploring was in order first. I found Publix, my favorite grocery, and continued on to the inter coastal and the public beaches. Lucky me, there was a parking place right up front and I walked to the beach to look around. It was gorgeous. The water so blue, the sand white and all the colorful umbrellas made quite a picture. The breeze was from the water so it was very pleasant about 82.
I drove down the road a little and found the 2nd public beach with several parking places available. There is quite a walk to get to the beach from the lot so the other was more popular. The 3rd lot was right at the north jetty with lots of activity going on. I found a little parking place just perfect for my car and headed for the dock. There were people fishing, some waiting for food, others just hanging out on the picnic tables or their lawn chairs. A boat pulled up, the mate jumped out and ordered 2 burgers and a six pack.
They were off in no time ready for the rest of the day. I sat and talked with a woman from Minnesota and we both said how nice it was to be here instead of up north.
I walked down to the end of the jetty to discover the mother load of shells. The jetty acts as a trap for the shells floating by and lots of people were taking advantage. A couple came by with a wagon and 5 buckets and they filled them with shells in 5 min. They said they work with mentally challenged kids and use the shells for arts and crafts. It didn't make a dent. So of course I had to hunt for treasures too.
Vowing to return to the shell haven I walked back to the "restaurant" and ordered a soda and sat and watched the world go by. It was so peaceful.
The boat launch had some activity. There was a man getting ready to launch his floating flying machine and attracted quite a lot of attention. Glad I got a picture, it would be hard to discribe. He wasn't going to launch for an hour so I decided
just shells
The shells were confined to the area north of the jetty. The rest of the beach was sand. to get to my shopping trip.
When I got home and put away the groceries, took Watson for another walk, then settled in for a comfortable late afternoon at the campsite.
Thursday morning was beautiful but promising to be hot so I had to get walking the dog. We had a plesant trip around the campground, I had breakfast and decided to hit the beach.
There is a drawbridge over the intercoastal and every time I had to go over it there was a boat needing to sail by. It takes about 6 or 7 minutes for the opening and closing so traffic builds up. Quite a little bottleneck. As I rode over the bridge I noticed an osprey's nest on top of the traffic light, complete with mom or dad keeping things warm. Can't imagine why they haven't taken the nest down, it's almost blocking the light, but there is another light on the same support so I guess the tree huggers won out.
I made it to the parking lot being careful not to park under a tree. Yesterday I saw pelicans in the trees in the lot and the cars under the tree
were polka-doted. Picture
I planted my chair on the shells close to the water, grabbed a bag and went hunting. There were so many I decided to prevent a sunburned butt and filled a bag and went back to my chair to sort through them. I watched the other shell seekers, kids in the gentle surf, boaters and fisherman enjoy their day as I was.
After a time I was feeling toasted so I headed back to the car and the campground. Watson was happy to see me and we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at out site.
It was a lovely day.
