It's good to have a job that let's you take your birthday off . . . amen to that. I am not sure why we picked the Tampa Bay Area, we had spent some time down here when we were in college but never got to know the area . . . now we know and we probably won't come back unless visiting others.
After a brutal Ohio winter, we needed some immediate beach time and so stayed at the
Doubletree on North Redington Beach which is actually not a bad hotel for being a Doubletree. Despite a number of tourists there, this was a very very well run hotel, clean, with great staff. Highly recommend. We had a great view of the beach from our room.
We spent some time on the beach, had a good time with some cocktails and one of the beach chairs you can rent from the property - the ones in the picture. The price was a bit stiff but considering you could use them all day and that our room was free, I can't complain. But like any resort, these guys don't get you on the room rate, that's a break-even proposition, they get

On North Redington Beach. Pool was okay, didn't swim in it, great little restaurant below. you on all the extras!
There aren't too many restaurant choices in the area and that night, and it is not memorable where we ate, but we had dessert at the hotel's patio restaurant called Veranda which was passable but the centerpiece was that there was a guy playing tunes and I secretly asked him (paid him) to play our wedding song while the server brought out a bottle of Dom Perignon (which was under-priced at $175 and I could not pass up). I know it was my birthday but the best gift is to share life with someone else.
