I'm going to start this blog simply by saying HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! I have a feeling that this is going to be the best year yet. 😊
Matt and I kicked off our New Year at the Tempo Miami, a Rock Resort (url=http://tempomiami.rockresorts.com/). I cannot say enough good things about our visit here. A few weeks ago, Matt and I decided that we wanted to do something a bit more fun for New Years Eve. The original plan was to stay in South Beach; however, all of the good hotels were filled up by the time we started looking. So, we thought of staying in Miami and just heading over to South Beach for the evening...enter: Tempo Miami.
Yet again, we booked out trip via Hotels.com and paid $299 for the basic room. I called about a week after booking to upgrade our room to the suite but they were taken by that point. If the price is right, we would really like to stay at the suite next trip. The pictures look amazing! I should also note that the customer service at Tempo Miami is excellent. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very friendly and
professional.
Now onto our actual stay! From the time of our arrival, to check out, we really truly impressed by this hotel. Parking seems to be valet only and runs $20.00 a night which is pretty typical in Miami. The valet staff were quick and professional, helping us with our bags and opening doors. As soon as we walked into the hotel, we were greeted by another friendly employee that escorted us to the elevators where we would check in on the third floor. This atmosphere was a bit different from hotels we were used to and offered a more intimate and chic feel. The check in process was quick and seamless. We were soon headed to our room on the 7th floor. The best way to describe our room is to simply look at the photos. The decor was clean and modern, similar to South Beach hotels, but on a much higher caliber in regards to quality. The King bed was some form of memory foam and absolutely heavenly. White linens and down pillows were everywhere. Matt and I actually fell asleep for 2 hours shortly after our arrival! The bathroom was equally as amazing and we concluded
that we eventually want to our bathroom to mirror the Tempos. The bathroom offered an open shower with overhead rainfall nozzle, a large and inviting bathtub, TV in the mirror over the sinks and even a bidet! Incredibly soft and comfortable robes were also in the room. This was truly the nicest place we have ever stayed!
Although our visit was brief, we did manage to get out and about a bit on New Years Eve and New Years Day. Last year before a Heat game, Matt was able to explore a bit of the area where we were with his friends. That being said, he remembered a nice market area just down the street by American Airlines Arena (url=http://www.baysidemarketplace.com/). We had a great time walking around this market and exploring the various shops and restaurants. We ended up getting dinner and drinks at a Latin place by the water. The mojitos were delicious and it was nice being able to walk around with our drinks. After dinner, we returned to the hotel, got dolled up and headed to Tempo's restaurant, Amuse, on the 3rd floor. Tempo Miami offered two main parties on New Year's Eve for uptown. The
first was around 200 people in Amuse where there was no cover for guests of the hotel. For non guests, cover was $25.00. Drinks were good, but incredibly small and expensive. This is the party that Matt and I attended for a bit. The second party was on the 1st floor, had about 500 people and looked pretty sweet. The downside was it cost $100+ per person, with an open bar. If we were big drinkers, it may have been worth the cost, but of course we are not. We ended up back in our room as the ball was dropping which was perfect as we were able to clearly see the fireworks over the bay from our window. A truly perfect New Years Eve!
Check out at the Tempo was at 11 AM which was a bit rough since the bed was so comfortable! We were so tempted to stay another night but opted to be frugal. My one and only complaint about the Tempo would be the time it took to get our car from valet that morning. Since a lot of people were checking out at the same time, the valet was a bit backed up
and we ended up waiting close to 20 or so minutes for our car. Really not a big deal all things considered. After finally getting our car, we headed over to South Beach for a bit, mostly because we wanted to check out Atrium (url=http://www.yelp.com/biz/atrium-miami-beach). On our way to the store, we stopped to eat at Five Guys (url=http://www.fiveguys.com/home.aspx). Both of us had heard stellar reviews of Five Guys and this was our first time eating there. We were highly impressed with our experience! I'm usually not a hamburger girl but ordered a basic little burger and loved it! The fries were also to die for, although a small fry is way too much for even two people. We ordered one order of small regular fries and one order of small Cajun fries. We had way too much leftover so will just ordered one fry next time. I hope there's a Five Guys closer to West Palm Beach.
Overall, it was such a fun trip and an excellent way to bring in the New Year. We are hoping to head back to Tempo Miami for either of our birthdays this Spring. Happy 2011 all, let's make it the best
year yet! 😊
