Jan. 14th, 2014 – Manatee at the Dinghy Dock
Hi Folks,
Yes, we are still in Coconut Grove. Yes. We still love it here! There are a number of Manatee that we see at the dinghy dock on a regular basis. It seems like there's a family - two large ones and a baby. Here are some pictures of the largest one taking a drink of fresh water, and then taking a deep breath before swimming away. The novelty of seeing Manatee has not worn off, and I doubt it ever will! (I do, however, refrain from jumping up and down, screaming and pointing now. I can now just watch in awe!)
When we come into the dinghy dock I usually stand to watch for manatee and then push our way in to tie up. It's a busy place! (I've added a view of the dinghy dock from shore.)
Dec. 26th, 2014 – Leaving Coconut Grove
Hi All,
Hoping that this email finds you all well. I've attached two photos:
1. These days we enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset. And there have been some truly fabulous ones recently! I love our life! I love the adventure we are on, and I'm so grateful to have this opportunity!
2. I don't often get many pictures of us in the dinghy - because I'm usually the driver!!! (…and, I really fear dropping my iPod into the water!!) But this one had to be taken! I call this "Assuming the position". For some reason, it seems like all men (?) drive their dinghy with one hand supporting their chin. I've tried it. It's comfortable for a few minutes, but then I need to sit up straight again!! Next, I'll be learning to stand while driving! (Better to see the coral heads.)
We are leaving the Dinner Key mooring field this afternoon and heading across Biscayne Bay to No Name Harbour where we will drop anchor for a few hours. Around 5am (Monday morning) we will begin our crossing to the Bahamas. We've been back and forth on whether we should stop at Bimini to check in, or continue through to the Berry Islands. I guess if you watch our track you'll see the final decision!!
It has been a wonderful six weeks in Coconut Grove. We've gotten to know
the community, so many people, and we've loved every second of it! But it's time for a new adventure! I can't wait to be in the crystal blue waters of the Bahamas!
There is a great three day weather window and that means a mass exodus! Many boats are leaving at the same time, so we will have some company out there.
I am not expecting to have very much access to internet once we are over there. Brian and Jane have been over there for a few weeks now, and have been kind enough to answer my many questions and it really sounds like we won't be very connected - no wifi, no cell phones. So, I will check emails when I can, but please know that you may not get an answer back for a while!
Please wish us fair winds and following seas! (…and better luck than our last attempt to leave!!) I am very excited for this - my first crossing!! I will send out another email blast when I can!
Love and kisses!!
