We love this place - the weather isn't perfect; but it is still great!
This is our fourth time at Fort De Soto County Park. It is located in the Tampa Bay area near St. Peterburg. Previous travel blogs from us have covered the area fairly well. Not amazingly, Fort De Soto is the top "hit" getter on the blog. People really want to plan their trips here. We are facing some "weather" because hurricane Ida has hit the Panhandle (Pensacola area) of Florida; so we are cutting our visit to the Tampa Bay area short. We received a credit for the part of our stay that we cancelled at the camp ground - a very fair and nice consideration. Our waterfront camp site was wonderful. North Beach, designated among the best beaches in the U.S., was a little wilder than normal because of the storm. At the Campground, which is run very nicely by Pinellas County, we discovered that there are washers and dryers in the shower houses. That was a welcome convenience after 2 weeks on the road. We had a great dinner (grouper Oscar - just like veal Oscar asparagus, crab, and hollandaise) for Wes and sea bass (a generous enough serving that we just finished for supper next day) for me

It's late in the year for hurricanes and Ida is really stirring things up! The storm is about 200 miles north of Tampa Bay where we are camping. But we still see some effects of the storm.
at Billy's Stonecrab & Seafood. We lingered around the piano bar after dinner. "Jerry" plays the grand, has a decent voice, has a play list bigger than the unabridged dictionary, and augments his piano tunes with a synthesizer. Margaritas and Martini's are $1.99. Great people watching at Billy's where just the crowd, of mostly regulars, was worth the price of admission (no cover no minimum). Like Surf City and Spring Break --- there are three girls for every boy - and everyone seems eager!

Wild life galore in front of the RV site at Fort De Soto. Neighbors at the next campsite were sure they saw a manatee. There were fish jumping and tons of pelicans, gulls and egrets.
