Wedding Dress Store
Susan, Jennifer, Jennifer's son Andrew and Rachel as we entered the store to look at wedding dresses. It didn't take long for Andrew to get bored!! Chapter 31 Travels with Cali
July 17: I left Flying J about 6:00 am and headed west for a bit, then south.
Cali—Wow! I've never seen Mommy up this early before! I wonder what is going on? Crazy fool that I am, I decided not to go through Cheyenne and Denver to Pueblo. I'm not quite tired of seeing mountains yet, so I aimed for Steamboat Springs, CO. That way I thought I could bypass two big cities and a lot of time on the Interstate. (I prefer back roads to Interstate.) Of course, I didn't look closely at the map to see the road I planned on taking involved two mountain passes, one at 9428 feet and the other at 8710! I knew it took me close to Rocky Mountain National Park and I thought I might stop and see that. Well, my daughter called and said Rachel (my granddaughter) was planning on trying on wedding dresses tomorrow. You know that knocked the National Park right off the calendar! All of a sudden I was in a hurry to get to Pueblo!
Driving across the mountains and the passes took a lot longer than
Just another dress?
Susan helping Rachel with one of the many dresses she tried on. I expected. I didn't stop to take any pictures either. All I can say it the area was sure busy, even though it isn't ski season. It is Friday, of course, so I guess a lot of people are taking an early weekend to Steamboat Springs and Hot Sulphur Springs. I would like to come back to this area, visit the Rocky Mountain National Park and take pictures. Anyway, I finally got to Pueblo about 7:30. I drove 13 and ½ hours. Whew!
July 18: Susan, Rachel and I drove back up to Colorado Springs this morning and met Bonnie (Susan's Step-Mom), Jennifer (Susan's half-sister) and Jennifer's kids to try on dresses. We spent several hours, with me taking pictures, of course. Rachel tried on a lot of dresses before finally selecting one she thought she would like. I don't think she was very sure, however. Just didn't seem to find the perfect one. Susan and I both saw her in one that brought tears to our eyes, but it wasn't her final choice today. We all went to eat after wards. It was quite a day. I want to note here that my ex and I get along
Rachel and Julian
Rachel and Julian opening some of their wedding gifts. very well and I am a great fan of his wife, Bonnie!
July 19: Today is Susan's birthday. I won't say how old she is! We all went to church. I like their church and minster. We also went to Sunday School class. That afternoon we watched football. Of course everyone here is a Bronco fan. Right now they are doing great and also won again today. They beat Dallas. My sympathies to my nephew-in-law Ward and his family in Arlington, the new home of the Cowboy's stadium.
July 20-August 6 I spent the first week in Pueblo mostly resting from all the travels. I also got caught up with all the family news. My grandson Tim is getting married September 6 in Ensenada, Mexico in Baja California. He and his bride-to-be are still in California. You may remember them from the previous chapter back in May when Tim proposed to her.
On the 25th, Rachel told us she had decided to get married on August 8! That gave us two weeks to get her wedding together!!! I thought Susan was going to have a heart attack! I confess I was in shock, too. I had promised
The Arkansas River
This is part of the Arkansas River that flows through downtown Pueblo. There are walkways all along it, with fountains, sculptures and murals. to do her flowers when I thought the wedding was going to be next June! Needless to say, this will be a busy time. We went to a rental place to look at candle stands, chairs etc., and Rachel picked out an octagonal gazebo which will look great. We ordered fresh flowers for her bouquet (gardenias and lilies) and bought silk ones for table arrangements. She went back to get her wedding gown and came home with the one that Susan and I liked best!!! She thought it was the prettiest after all.
The wedding will take place on the Riverfront in downtown Pueblo. It is a beautiful setting. Her reception will be held at an upscale pizza and Italian restaurant also on the river. I am making arrangements for each of the tables for the reception with artificial flowers in teal and white--lilies and gardenias with ribbon. Susan's dining room looks like a florist shop!
Cali In and out! In and out! I think Mommy is changing into a cat. She is in and out of the RV all the time. That's ok, though, because she lets me out and I get to run around. I Wedding Area
Rachel and Julian's wedding was just down from this waterfall. In the photo it is located at the top left. There is a little dock area there. spend a lot of time chasing squirrels and watching out for the two dogs in the back yard. There is one about my size and he barks at me all the time. At first I was afraid, then I decided he couldn't get out to chase me, so I either ignored him or teased him! Kind of fun! Mommy seems to stay very busy and is awfully excited about something. I have to rub her legs to calm her down! (The two dogs are Sammie and Annie and belong to Susan and Frank)
August 7: I think everything is coming together, miracle of miracles! We had a good rehearsal down at the river this afternoon. Then we went out to eat after-wards. My other granddaughter, Tiffany is Rachel's maid of honor. It was good to see her. Her Mom, my youngest daughter Jacque and her family will be here for the wedding tomorrow. Wow! Tomorrow! My granddaughter is getting married tomorrow!!!!!
