This morning we woke up to some nice fresh powder outside of our hotel room window. We then of course went right to the computer to see how much snow each resort had gotten. Vail reported 4 inches and Beaver Creek 5 inches. We had one last day to spend on snow and it was totally perfect that we got to ride some nice fresh powder today.
For our last day, we had the option of going to any of the resorts that we had already been to or spend a day time at Keystone. After a little pondering, we decided that we would go back to Vail since it is the biggest of all of the places we had been to. Also, when we were there Monday the snow was a little bit crunchy so we thought it would be nice to experience Vail with some powder.
We slept in until 8am this morning instead of getting up just after 7am like we usually do. Therefore, we didn't quite make it to Vail until about 9:30am, but still plenty of time to enjoy the nice fresh snow.
Today we hopped right on the chairlift and headed over
Jason
he likes to adventure! the Back Bowls and enjoyed all of the snow over there. Vail had reported 4 inches of snow, but that just reports the main part of the hill - the Back Bowls and top of the mountain had more than that.
We cruised around playing in the snow and floating through the powder everywhere we went. We spent a good amount of time in Blue Sky Basin winding through the trees and making first tracks in the snow all over the place. Several times we found ourselves not really knowing where we were, but loving the unique paths that we had taken. Eventually we decided to go find some lunch and we settled on eating up at the top of the mountain at Two Elks Lodge. The lodge was very fabulous and since we were classy and went right at 12:30p, it was very packed with hungry mountain folk. After spending forever searching for a place to sit, we finally were able to relax and enjoy some lunch on the hill.
Not only was there fresh snow from the night before, but almost all day long the snow kept coming down so that fresh powder was everywhere! We
had an awesome day just playing in the snow and going wherever we felt like with no real agenda. We covered so much terrain today and were smiling all day long!
Around 3:30pm or so, I unstrapped my back foot before getting on the chairlift and then the toe strap of my binding snapped! That was somewhat unfortunate! I was just super glad it didn't happen any sooner!
We kept on cruising around and playing until we finally reached the base again at 4:15pm; at which time, the lifts were closed and that meant we were done for the day. We both wished we could have stayed longer but were thankful for all the fun we had in the fresh powder!
After locking up our snowboard on the rack, we meandered around Vail Village again for a little while and eventually stopped in at the Burton at Vail store where they gave me a replacement piece for my broken binding -- yay!
We spent a good amount of time in town and eventually began our journey back to Dillon on 70 which was covered with snow so we took it nice and slow the entire way
Snowy Vail
the covered bridge that walks you into town home. We saw a few accidents and tons of warning signs and also signs that said that any commercial vehicles were required to have chains. It was pretty nasty and slickery but we made it back to the hotel with no problem at all!
Once back, we started to look into printing out our boarding passes to fly back to New York tomorrow. As much as we love you all, we're definitely not ready to have this trip end yet! We ended up walking down the road a bit to the local Kinko's to print out some boarding passes and then we got the car and went to dinner. We found a nice local place to eat at that was both delicious and quick - just what we were looking for since it was already past 9pm when we got there! After enjoying that, we came back to the hotel and got most everything packed up with the exception of a few things here and there. And then, of course, I had to begin catching up on these blogs so that I don't let my readers down!
However, it's almost midnight here now so I think it's high time I get to sleep! Jason is, of course, already sound asleep probably dreaming of soft powder riding or something similar. 😊
On that note, I'm headed out for the night but let me tell you these days that I have spent in Colorado have been absolutely amazing and I wish I didn't have to leave!
Good night and see you all soon!
