view from the road
as we were driving into town All apologies to our avid blog readers that were disappointed in our slowness recently, but we'll try to get caught up here. So...back to yesterday....
Our choice for our third day on snow was good ol' Breckenridge. It's only about 15 miles from our hotel so it didn't take us very long to get there. Once we parked the car (in the free parking lot..yaayy), we grabbed all of our gear and headed to the Breck Connect gondola which takes you from town to the mountain. After about a 15 minute ride, we found ourselves at the bottom of Peak 8 at Breckenridge. We were cheerfully greeted by a guest services employee with Nature's Valley granola bars and Ricola cough drops. That'll be the day when we do that at Bristol...pfff.
As we always do, we quickly stored the backpack and jumped on the chairlift as soon as we could. We took a few cruiser runs to warm up and then we headed for the very top of Breckenridge. We took the Imperial SuperChair, the highest chairlift in North America, up to about 12,880 feet. Once we got off of the chairlift, I was feeling a little out of

fun picture...courtesy of the ever so amazing Jason breath but enjoyed it. We then decided that we would climb up to the very top of the mountain where elevation was nearly 13,000 feet. There was a path to follow up the to the peak so Jason and I started climbing. After only a few steps, I was feeling very out of breath and overall not so well. So then we decided that Jason would go up and we would meet back down on the other side. I was just about to turn to go walk back down what I had climbed up when I decided that I couldn't say no to climbing up to the peak. Jason was already just about up there so I was hoping that he was noticing that I was climbing up so that he didn't leave without me! Sure enough, since he's so amazing like that, he noticed and waited for me. I took it nice and slow climbing up and stopped every now and again to catch my breath and then continued along my way. Once I was nearer to the top Jason came down and got my board from me and then I finished the climb and was very very very

people climbing up to the peak of Breck at 12,998 feet happy that I had decided to climb up it! It was cold and windy up top but totally worth it. We then had to make our way down from the peak and pretty much any way you went it was just straight down. So we picked our side to go down and then toughed it out through the crazy winds that blew little tiny pellets of snow at us. It was quite the adventure and I absolutely loved it! It totally felt like we had been dropped off on a peak in the middle of nowhere and set free...it definitely didn't feel like we were at any kind of resort!
Once we made our way back down to civilization, we had an early lunch down at the base of Peak 8. We made ourselves some nice ham sandwiches and then carried on.
We spent most of the rest of our day just cruising around aimlessly from here to there and having a nice enjoyable day. At the base of Peak 9, we found a 6 person chairlift and then rode that - it was my first 6 person one ever!
In other exciting chairlift news, we spent
the peak
see that peak up there...yup, we climbed to it...and rode it down a lot of adventuring time trying to find this one chairlift that made crazy turns. After lots of maneuvering by Jason the master maneuverer, we rode across a bridge through all of these fancy houses and then suddenly found ourselves at the loading point for a chairlift in the middle of the neighborhood! It was a nice long ride and kinda crazy to see all of the different paths that the chair took. When you ride it up, the chair goes one way, but the way down is completely different and criss-crosses all over the place. At a few points, we had our very same chairlift on both sides of us while we were still on it -- crazy!
After a fulfilling day on the hill, we took the Breck Connect gondola back into town and walked around the shops and streets of Breckenridge. I'd have to say that I can't necessarily decide on which actual mountain is my favorite, but Breckenridge is definitely my favorite town. We got some Crepes a la Carte and ate them by the outdoor fireplace...oh so delicious! After a little more shopping and walking, we went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co for some
drinks and appetizers during happy hour. Jason tried to force feed me popcorn shrimp, but I naturally chickened out because I'm silly like that and seafood scares me. 😊
We then booked out of Breckenridge and prepared ourselves for our first night of Colorado riding. A couple of instructors from Bristol were in town as well, so we met up with them to ride at Keystone for the night. None of us had been to Keystone before, let alone night riding. After a few runs, we were all pleasantly surprised. After years of riding Bristol at the night time, we came to expect icy conditions and lots of people. However, that was not the case and in fact, lots of fresh snow was falling that night which made the riding even more enjoyable.
Once we had exhausted ourselves from riding all night, we drove back to Dillon (where our hotel is) and the four of us went out to dinner. By the time we had gotten back to the hotel, we were exhausted and it was getting late so we didn't have much time to put into the blog but we definitely apologize for the delay!

As an avid blog reader, I am glad you had time to update...since we are in hardcore ACC basketball tournament mode here in the heart of NC, no one comes to work and I have nothing to do but read blogs. 13,000 feet, that is just CRAZY...I think my favorite part of this entry is that stack of onion rings in your pic.
